I was diagnosed with IC years ago by symptoms. I now have a new uro and they were glad to keep going with the diagnosis since my symptoms do seem to support it. Now that I'm having a little bit of trouble flaring on and off again since my hysterectomy, they feel a cysto with hydrodistension and biopsy are warrented just to rule out other causes and to make sure they are treating the right disease.
I have no problem with their rationalization and actually am happy that they are more thorough than my previous doc.'s but for some reason this minor little procedure has me very nervous. I'm not typically a nervous person about such things and can't figure out "why" I'm having such trouble with this. Then I read some of the stories on here and it has only made me more concerned. My doc wants to do it under general, for a number of reasons I'd prefer an epidural but I'll hash that out with the anestheologist. My biggest concern is the pain. I think I'm still very fresh in remembering the pain I suffered after my hysterectomy. It put me into one of the biggest flares of my entire life and it is scarey thinking about that kind of pain again. I felt no pain from the hysterectomy, all of my pain from the flare was so bad it over rode the pain signals from the hysterectomy.
I know they say there is a good chance that in a few days after the procedure I'll feel much better but I can't get past the pain factor.
