Hello everyone. I hope you are having good pain free days and less time on the potty. :grouphug:

I need some help... or shall I say just a little information or opinions if anyone would be so kind to reply. Ive been going crazy for a few days now. A little information first. I do have pain during sex but it normally doesn't last very long maybe through the next day depending how long the intercourse took. I hardly have to up my pain medications and my boyfriend is very attentive and kind to my needs.

Well Houston, we have a problem! My boyfriend and I were together Monday night. It wasn't anything out of the norm, it wasn't an all night ordeal. For the first time though, I used a spermicidal suppository. I hope someone knows what I am talking about as I'm not exactly sure what to call it. I inserted it and after we were finished I did my normal after sex activities. Going to the bathroom, drinking water, taking an antibiotic and went to bed. All of the things I normally do.

A few hours later in my sleep I had a enormous amount of discharge, enough to send me on a sleepy walk to the potty to find out what in the heck was going on. It was very clear and quit a bit. It and it took me a few minutes to realize it was most likely the suppository. I later tested to see if it makes a liquid by holding it in my warm hand and it does. SO that pretty much told me what was the culprit. Fine, I went back to bed...

Well the next day I started in with one of the worst flairs I have ever had. And it has not let up. It feels like my whole pelvic region (especially my bladder) is on FIRE! Ive had some seriously bad flairs before and this one is a close 9 out of 10. I have not used spermicide suppositories since before my IC began. So do you think its a possible culprit?

I am beginning to think that when I was asleep and I began getting all of that discharge in my sleep that some of it went into my bladder. Any opinions on that? SO sorry for the long blabbing but basically has anyone had a painful reaction from their bladder from spermicide?

I also want to add..... that after using it I looked at the package and the use by date (or whatever it is called) said 04-2004. Almost a year ago! :bonk: I'm a dummy, honestly. Also when I did the melt one in my hand to see if it turns to liquid IT TOOK MY NAIL POLISH RIGHT OFF! Is it supposed to do that? :hmm:

Again so sorry for all of my blabbing, but if anyone has had any flair ups or painful reactions to spermicide, or know if spermicide is supposed to be strong enough to take off your damn nail polish could you give me a reply? I will be most grateful for any opinions as well.

Hmm I have never heard of those. I have to admit, it sounds painful...the fact that you are inserting something into your vagina, and then the act of intercourse with all that in and out thrusting? Is that safe? I'm pretty clueless, I'm sorry...

Anyway, I see that you are on antibiotics, so my first thought before I saw that was UTI. Maybe you are just having a reaction to the suppository? I wish I could be of some help. I really hope you feel better soon.

Hugs,
Jess

Thanks for the reply Jess :grouphug: I too think its a reaction to the spermicide at least that is what I am really hoping. I haven't had any problems with penetration that lasted this long or even felt like this. And using a spermicide thats over a year past the stamped date kind of makes me wonder too. I wonder if it changed chemically. :bonk: Boy sometimes its enough to drive you bonkers.

Hmm if it lasts, maybe you should bring this up to your gyn? I haven't the first clue about spermicides, but am wondering if the chemicals can go wrong, how this will affect your insides, you know? I hope it passes...ack it sounds painful!!! :grouphug:

spermicidal suppository.....scented soap.......bubble bath.....shampoo....I pretty much don't let anything that is not all natural (except Wet lubricant) near the sensitive zone at anytime...You should have your urine dipped to make sure you now don't have an infection. I have found the problem with IC is that we get so used to the pain we forget that at times we might acutally have an infection, it is rare, but it does happen and these things can cause a UTI. Working with kids I can't tell you how many moms bring the little angels in and they have UTI's. The first thing we ask is....does she take long bubble baths...and the answer 8/10 times is yes. So if the pain doesn't let up I would get it checked. And don't forget...lots and lots of water helps!!

I've heard of them, just never used one, lol. But I have read that spermacides on/in condoms can be irritating to IC-ers, so there is a connection there! My boyfriend and I have always just used condoms, since I am 35 and smoke and the pill messes up my cycles when I go off them, it's the preferred method for me. And lately we have used condoms that do have a spermicidal agent, and surprisingly and happily it hasn't bothered me, so we continue to use them. But I was very hesitant at first, and had decided they got one chance, any discomfort and I was buying new.

So if spermacides on condoms can be a trigger, I would think so too would a spermacidal suppository. Just my opinion, hope it helps! I know it doesn't help with the pain, sorry about that! :(

Feel better soon!!!!!
Hugs,
Tracey :)

Once i used the foam that kills sperm before I knew I had IC and it caused me a lot of burning and irritation. I don't use any soap other than lever2000, one kind of laundry soap, and asteroglide is the only thing I use for sex(when I am able to have sex). Anything else seems to cause a flare. If it took yoiur nail polish off it probaly is what caused your flare and I agree with getting checked for an infection. Hope you feel better soon!

I had problems with spermicide even before I knew I had IC. I didn't have any problem with it before my first child(which I think brought on my IC) I could use the sponge, the diaphragm, spermicidal condoms, all of it. I used those suppositories about 7 years ago and I only did it once. I didn't have IC then, but it really hurt. I also have not been able to use sprmicidal condoms in the last 5 years or so . They kill sperm, and they are not nice to us either. Good luck!

I recently had problems with a vaginal estrace pill that I was taking for an IVF cycle. I had had a flare from a UTI that took 2 weeks to calm down. Then 3 weeks later I started the estrace. I never had had problems with vaginal suppositories before, but yawsa!!! I was burning so bad!!! I didn't even realize it was the vaginal estrace until like 10 days later! My flare is finally calming down ( about 10 days later). I think I agree with the others to keep EVERYTHING away from down there. No suppositories! I hope you are feeling better soon!

If you have any of the suppositories left, you might take them in when you go to your doctor. It does sound like that could be the problem.
