I had the cysto/hydro under anas. yesterday morning and I'm still in alot of pain.
Both my lower sides hurt and all around my pelvic area. I feel like Im peeing knives. When does this stop???? I called my doctor and he said just take the pain meds. Duh! I wanted some answers. He said I Have IC and I should make an appointment in 2-3 weeks and we would discuss treatment then. Should we wait that long? The pictures I saw look like there between the moderate and severe on the website. He also said that the distention works on 70 percent of patients does that mean thats the only treatment that I need? Please help I dont know if I need a new doc or If I just need to wail and be patient. Also what helps to relieve the pain??? Im taking loracet and pyridium. :headbang: :headbang: :toilet: :help:
thanks

Ok, first off, everyone's different on healing time after a cysto/hydro... I hurt for about 3 or 4 days after mine. I had it on a Thursday. At the time I was working, and so I took Friday off, rested over the weekend, and felt that I could have gone back to work on Monday; however my chest hurt from being intubated (and because I have fibromyalgia too) and, since I'm asthmatic as well, my husband wanted me to take one more day off so he could watch me and make sure I wasn't about to have an asthma attack, so I stayed home Monday as well.
Some patients say they are fine after 24 hours; others say they hurt for two weeks or more. It all depends on how your body reacts to the surgery. Hopefully you'll be on the shorter end of the pain scale :)
Many doctors do ask you to come in 2-3 weeks later -- that's not unusual... he's busy, and he also wants you to heal up a little from the hydro. He obviously wants to discuss treatment options with you at your post op visit, so that's a good sign! It's doubtful that the hydro is going to be the only treatment he recommends for you (that is, unless you go to him all healed up in 2-3 weeks and say you fel 100% better -- in that case he might just watch you and then schedule another distention when your symptoms begin to creep back). However, if you're still symptomatic, I'm sure he'll discuss other options with you, including oral meds and bladder instillations, at your post op meeting with him. Just be patient for now... you'll know more about whether you like him or not after you see him again and you know what his treatment protocol is going to be like. :)
To relieve the pain, keep taking your pain meds. Also, either heat or cold in the area can help. It depends on what you prefer. A hot heating pad over your lower belly can ease that crampy feeling, and an ice pack on the crotch can ease the burning, "knives in the urethra" sensation. Rest also helps. Don't do too much these next few days... just relax, lie down, read chick magazines, watch TV/movies, do your favorite "you time" activities --- because this is YOU time. Your time to heal.
Try not to fret too much. We've all been through this and can help you get through it too :)
Sending big healing hugs :grouphug:

Thanks Ill Try the heating pad, Ive used it during flares but I didnt think of it for this Ill also try the ice. Thanks for the info on the doc too. I guess Im afraid if I wait to long it will get worse. Does this progress and get worse or does it get worse with flares and then just go back to how it was before?
thanks for every thing
I love this website

I also hurt for about 4 days afterwards. Then I developed a UTI which lasted a while. The UTI complicated the pain. ONce I got rid of it, I was find. As a matter of fact, my bladder capacity improved. liz

Hi there,
Just wanted to add I had my first hydrodistention  December 15th It took 3 days for the pain to subside and about a week for the burning and stinging to stop when I urinated. :cussing: Pyridium is good for that and I also ord a bottle from the IC network were you can squirt warm water on your vaginal area to help sooth it. your affects from the procedure shpuld heal soon it all depends on your body. if you are already in pain the procedure makes it worse. Hope you feel better soon :bunny:
It is now a month later I don't feel as bad as before procedure but still not 100%
