Hi, I have been a member since April but I mostly just read what is going on with everyone. I was diagnosed in March 03 I started the Elimron 4 capsules a day and did this for a year and half and my Dr. thought that I was doing good so she suggested that I come off it, which I did in July 04 without any real problems. I also did the DMSO treatments for 8 weeks in 03, they were horrible for me but I survived. The first five were done by the practioner who was not very understanding, then just so happened she was off one day and the LPN did the catherter and she was so gentle and understanding so she got to do the last 3 but I had terrrible time even for several weeks or months after the DMSO. I hope that I never have to go through them again. I don't want to scare anyone it is worth the try. I do believe they helped me, just painful (so is everything with IC) :mad: . I started taking Atarax in Feb 04 it has been very helpful :) it is the only prescribed med that I take other than HRT. I also take Calicum Citrate, Vit E and I drink baking soda and take tums when I feel I need them, I can't tolerate the Prelief for some strange reason it really messes up my stomach??? :loco:

Sorry to be so long , now to my ???, I have been having some burning around the uretha for the last few days? any idea what could cause this or what to do, I rinse with cool water after each bathroom trip because of VV any other thoughts. I just want to add I believe I was one of the lucky ones that could take the Elimron, do you think it could be where I stopped taking it and it is just a flare-up. Any thought would be appreciated. I am on pins and needles because everything has been going so good and I am so afraid of a major flare is coming on, it is terrible to have to be this way. I have severe pain and BURNING when I flare. I know everyone that suffers from IC has terrrible pain. Any advise would be helpful.

:hi I have always had buring around the urethra and sometimes even redness and pain. What I found helped me significantly was the perinal wash bottle. I bought a couple from the IC store and they have been a life saver for me. I keep one at home and one at work. I only use toliet paper to dry off. The pain in and around my urethra is reduced and I can definitely tell the difference when I don't use it. :toilet:

Sounds like maybe your urine is irritating the delicate tissue. It is a good idea to continue to rinse after urinating. Don't rub the TP, blot with it. Use only white, unscented TP. Drink a lot of water to dilute the urine while it is still in your bladder. I also think it would be a good idea to see your doctor regarding this. I honestly don't know if you are going into a flare or not. Nor do I know if stopping the Elmiron brought this on. That is something you need to talk with your doctor about.

Hi, I was on the live chat last night (which was great) and I'm not sure if it was Linda or Kathy but one of them said it could be something that you ate that could be causing the burning right now. Also check with your Doc about Ultram (?) helps with painful urination and could benefit a bit from that. (maybe it kinda numbs the area abit after you pee) Have you been wearing snug pants that could rubbing in the wrong areas? Finally maybe you might have a UTI my uro has me take a macrobid after Sex (sorry to be so blunt) because sometimes that can cause one.. I know this is wordy but those are all of my ideas of whats going on. Good luck
