i went back home for winter break for about a month and one of my favorite things to do is go to the movies with my sweetie. it really hasn't seemed like there have been that many good movies released but among the movies that i had seen, my three favorite would be "A Very Long Engagement," "The Aviator," and "Ocean's Twelve." i'd say that's quite a range too! deffinitely my fave is "A Very Long Engagement;" it is a french movie done by filmaker Jean Pierre Jeunet. he's my favorite filmaker. it stars Audrey Tautou who starred in Jeunet's last movie "Amelie" (also one of my personal favorites ^_^). anyway, this movie is so sweet. it is about a couple who had known each other since childhood and their relationship blossoms and they became engaged and are unfortunately separted by war. i really like the realistic portrayal of how war affects life and the different ways that people cope. there are comical and ironic qualties about the movie which may strike some people as out of place in a war movie, but i think it fit perfectly because laughter is one of the ways that helps people with coping with a difficult period in their life. anyway, i loved this movie and my fiance and i both laughed and cried and just thouroughly enjoyed it and it made me realy appreciate love and being loved and living and being able to appreciate.

To add to your list of recommended movies:
I really enjoyed "Spanglish" - NOT a typical Adam Sandler movie, it's very sweet and thought provoking....
Also just saw "Travellers & Magicians"- a movie about enjoying life as it comes, set in Bhutan (country in the Himalayas), with lovely scenery.... Felt like I'd taken a gentle vacation...
Will definitely check out "A very long engagement" -- I also loved Amelie!

Loved "Million Dollar Baby" and "In Good Company" both character driven movies that made you laugh and cry. Going tomorrow to see "sideways" and next week to see "Hotel Rwanda". I love movies, we sit on the aisle as I will need at least one bathroom break!
I just saw Hide and Seek. Very disappointing, but Dakota Fanning does a great job as always. She is such a cute little girl. She looks a bit like Wednesday Adams in this movie, though, but still cute and very talented.

A MUST see is "Finding Neverland". Love that Johnny Depp. He can take a so-so movie and make it great. :)
