My cats Casey (13 years old) and Hobbes (12 Years old) like to pee outside of the litterbox. Hobbes does it out of jealousy. Casey does it because he is in the early stages of renal failure. We have tried that Feliway stuff. But it has no effect on Hobbes. I wish we could get him to stop.

LOL...that is so funny. Well I guess not if you have to pick up the mess. I have a new kitten. All my life I hated cats, thought they where good for nothing but landfill. You would wonder because I come from the good ole farm life and my dad has a barn full of them and I mean FULL. I think word out on the street is if you don't have a home, head to Ikes, he'll feed you. So funny. Anyway last fall this kitten was not doing so good. My niece was at the farm for the weekend and she begged me to try to clean her up, her eyes where almost glued shut from infection, under nuroushed, very sad. By the end of the weekend we did a pretty good job, got her eyes cleaned up and the little bugger was a different kitten. Ran all over everywhere, no wonder she could see. Well she grew on me. We where calling her, Simon. When I decided to bring her home I first took to the vet to make sure she was ok, ect. Yes, will a little medication she would be fine oh but we had to add an "e" to her name.
Today she is full of piss and vinegar. Rips around the house like a made woman. Love her to pieces. I still can't believe I have a house cat. My dog, well he puts up with her. He is good with her but give me the "mom, its about this cat" look all the time. Actually your picture you have posted looks like her when she was a kitten. So funny

I have 2 other cats named Shelby (9 years old) and Sammy (3 years old). But they don't pee outside the litterbox. The two oldest do. But I still love them all the same. :grouphug:

Have you tried getting another cat box? Sometimes cats like to have their own box. We have two cats too. I know my daughter's cat started peeing outside of the box. So I got another box with different litter in it. And he uses that just fine. So my cat has her own box with scoopable litter in it. And my daughter's cat has his own box with regular litter. Haven't had any problems since. :)

We have 4 litterboxes because we have 4 cats. But Hobbes still pees outside the litterbox. He does it out of jealousy I think.

Couple of questions: Are the litterboxes tucked away in a hidden area...whereas the cats can't see a great distance out? Cats need *escape potential* in a litterbox....if they don't they can end up peeing on the floor.
I've been in your situation and its far from funny...it downright sucks. The one cat that peed everywhere: I had to lock her into the kitchen area when i was out. So if she peed, she peed on the linoleum and not on the bed, the sofa, in closets, on piles of clothes or towel (good grief! what a horror show it was!!!) The pillow aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhh! I nearly went bonkers...at any rate I'd go with the jealousy factor too. And maybe the escape potential -- cats can get spooked really easy. Your vet can also put the 2 cats in question on anti-anxiety meds to stop that behavior if all else fails....
I hope you find a solution soon! :)

I used to have a Persian cat who was great about using the litter box until I had him declawed. He then proceeded to go on every soft carpet in my condo. Nothing worked. I tried every kind of litter available and got him new boxes. My vet suggested I put him on a female hormone called megace. I cut the pills into 4s and gave it to him once a week. I couldnt believe it within a few weeks he was back in the litter box. It changed his behavior. he also became three times more affection. I asked the vet if I could use it on boyfriend (ha). anyway you could suggest it to your vet. :loco:

Please take your cat to the vet. It is not uncommon for cats to pee outside the litter box when they have a UTI or a stone. This may be a solution medication can fix.

I had a cat that had renal failure and he too would not pee in the litter box, not sure why. Towards the end he would pee in the sink, the tub..anywhere but the litter box. Good luck!!
