How about trying a cold ice pack wrapped lightly in a towel and place in the middle of your legs. Hope that helps

I soak in a bath as hot as I can stand it, then use ice or heat. I also take AZO that you can get over the counter! There are also some good flare coping stategies in the patient handbook!
Hope that helps and your feeling better soon!

Have you tried the Thermacare heat patches (there are other brands too, Playtex makes them and the Well Patch brand) for when you have to go "wireless" and can't have your heating pad?? I love those things! I use them for travel and sleeping, so I don't have to worry about my heating pad. They might help make the daytime more bearable. Just be sure to check your skin frequently if you aren't wearing loose clothes, I have read here that can potentially cause skin burns/irritation. (I too use the AZO Standard or Uristat -- otc pyridium -- and it does help some!!!)

I hope you feel better soon!!!

Hugs and warm fuzzies,
Tracey :)

I am sorry to hear that you are flaring. Have you tried the IC diet? It is in the patient handbook. I hope you feel better soon.

AZO and the like never worked for me. I was told to you can't take it for long because it messes up your kidneys. My doctor put me on Methadone because its not addicting. The bad part is I have to take all the time.

I have a question. Has anyone ever been on DMSO's monthly?? I have
been doing this for the past 4 months and it seems to be working?? Can
I keep having these treatments or do I have to go on other drugs sooner
or later?? I am on the oxytrol patch too and that seems to work also.
thanks

I'm so sorry you are flareing hon you may need to drop a urine off by the doctor office today or should i say tomorrow now if the pain isn't so bad you can't wait and need to go to the e.r
any times a flare comes on and your not sure if it was caused by stress or something you ate its good to have it checked for a uti to be on the safe side.
try useing heat or ice drinking baking soda one tsp to an eight oz glass of water. tums to settle down the flare.
hope you feel better soon and rest as much as you can
sending you hugs and prayers

Sending you my prayers that the flare ends soon!

These are some things that help me when I flare:
*Lying down
*Heating pad between the legs or bag of frozen corn or peas wrapped
in a towel between the legs (sometimes heat is more comforting than cold
but sometimes cold relieves the throbbing)
*Drinking lots of water - which is a pain because then I have to go more
often - but it seems to flush my system quicker and let the flare end
sooner
*Taking pain med (for me its 1/2 of a propox pill)

Hope your better soon :grouphug:

In addition, to the above suggestions, you could try a strict IC diet (it takes a 2-3 weeks to flush everything out). You may want to try Sitz baths (plain warm baths) for 15-20 minutes. If hot baths or heating pads don't work, try ice packs. (When I was first sick, I found that if one didn't help, the other one did.)

You could also try 1 teaspoon of baking soda in a cold glass of water (about 4-8 oz). It tastes horribly, but it is my favorite trick. DO NOT DO THIS MORE THAN 3 TIMES PER DAY. Also, ask your doctor before trying this, especially if you have high blood pressure, or need to watch your sodium intake. You may want to try some simple gentle stretches. Try some relaxation techniques or anything that will help distract you from your symptoms.

And definitely rule out any UTI's. You may want to ask your doctor for a prescription of pyridium - you can take it and still work. It's like an aspirin for you bladder. Hope something out there helps you!

I just wanted to add my sympathies. I personally find that either a hot water bottle or one of the microwave heating pads placed between my legs helps the most along with rest, lots of water, and baking soda. I wish there were a simpler solution for you. Wishing you a speedy recovery from the flare.

I am sorry you are flaring. I got myself to a pain clinic some years ago and now get some pain med the doctor prescribed. Catching it before it got worse and worse helped a lot and I find that now I need less med. A heating pad does wonders for me. And I am keeping you and all here and those not fortunate enough to have found this online community in prayers. You might start keeping track of the flares in case they get more frequent at work. Once at work there's not a whole lot to help.

Hi everyone,
thanks for all your helpful remedies. I got lucky the other day and called the dr.
and got a DMSO treatments which really helps with the flares. I am having them
monthly right now for a few more months when I go see the dr. again I will ask
about pain meds or other options. Again thanks for getting back to me and caring.
It is so nice to be able to share your feelings with people who know how you feel.
