:hi: I decided to do something really stupid tonight. We got more than 9 inches of snow last night and I thought if I scooped the rather large patio for my hubby he'd pay more attention to me. Well I pulled a stitch out somehow doing it and my interstim (permanent placement) is leaking/oozing/bleeding now. It's a weird fluid with blood coming out and the stitch is like a good 1/2 inch. I will call my uro rmorrow but he only works Mon-Wed so one of the other docs might have to help me out. For now we cleaned it up good with antiseptic to avoid infection, put antibiotic cream on the loose stitch and put steri-strips across where the loose stitch is.

The only reason I scooped only 1 week after surgery is for my hubby to pay attention to me and look what I got from the deal, i slipped on the ice and avoided falling on my bum and ripped a stitch out and am now bleeding. I guess it wasn't worth the effots, huh? When I told him I was bleeding, he just said, oh yeah? All the agony for that? I really am stupid!

My hubby thanked me and then told me not to do that kind of thing anymore. He sat on the couch and watched me out the window the whole time, guys. It's not like he couldn't of come outside and said doll (that's what he calls me now) let me do that, you shouldn't be lifting heavy snow.

Oh well I can't expect a lot of sympathy, I'm the idiot that decided to shovel snow, :bonk: right? But man is my back and incision throbbing like hel*. Ooooooowwwwwwwiiiiiiii!!!!! I ruined 2 pairs of sweats, underwear and 2 t-shirts. I'm so dumb sometimes. :tsk: :tsk: :tsk:

My uro is 2 hours away and doesn't work on Fridays and my MD is full today and I dread the thought of going to E.R. all alone for the entire day. What in the hel* was I thinking last night..... :cussing: :bonk: :headbang: :hmm:

Ok, I am going to agree with you here...that was stupid. But its done and over and you can't go back in time.

What you can do (I think you know already) I say this very gently -----> You need to rest, rest, rest! You really don't want to do some irrepairable damage to the pocket or do soemthing worse: like do something that will cause more pain than you've already got. ack. I've told you my story...I was flat out and in bed for the first 2 weeks! Any more than that and my backside would throb!!!

Forget the snow, its only gonna melt anyways. Forget about everything and focus on YOU! Hope that ripped stitch heals quick... :)

I'm afraid to just rest and not do anything about it today.... any advice and you're right I was totally stupid, there's more to the story like stooping way over to rescue a kitten stuck under a building that was partially frozen and starving as well as the snow scooping. Not real bright I know but I guess I thought I was healed enough to be my ususal Super Mom self. Guess not!

Call your Uro (did he so the surgery? if not call the Surgeon who did)

If you have to go to the ER, do you have a Medtronic Rep you can call? (some people don't have Medtronic Reps) If you do maybe your Rep can be your advocate in the ER.

Call you PCP -- maybe he/she can help

Good luck and let us know how you're doing!

I agree with both you and Jolene --- you definitely need medical attention today. Treatment for a draining incision should never, ever be delayed. The result could be a serious infection.

Warm hugs,
Donna

And please --- don't do anything else to strain your incision before it is healed.

Tracey, hate to say this but that was so stupid... I too did as little as possible when I had mine.. Hubby cooked the first night... (burnt steak) as the days folllowed I told my daughter how to cook things.....
I think the other the girls are right, you need medical attention, that can become a serious infection if not treated...
hope things go well.

Hi. Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I hate experiencing this alone here. I've gone through I don't know how many bandages, this thing is really seeping/bleeding, it burns/stings and is causing a great deal of pain. I started off by calling my urologist who did the surgery, he was leaving at 1 p.m. and gonna call before he left, well it's after 1 p.m. then I called an explained to my MD's nurse (cause they don't allow you to talk to the doctors at this office, it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard of) what I had done and they want me to see the Physician's Assistant but not til 2 p.m. (who I cannot stand, he's mean and arrogant and rough) because my MD is full and can't make room for me. It's burning, it's hot to the touch obviously infection is brewing and I don't know what to do. I'd go to ER but don't really want to go alone. It's not pumping out blood but enough that you put a tagaderm bandage on and 10 minutes later it's red and oozing and the bandage is full of drainage. So something isn't right, I obviously pulled a stitch or two or three. My MD said it doesn't matter because they can't re-stitch a wound after 48 hours of having surgery, well they can't leave it like this either, what am I to do here?

I am lost and think this is obsurd that no one is calling me back or telling me what to do. This isn't right and I'm scared and all alone...

I will keep you up to date. The only thing my uro's nurse said was I was to be on bed rest until my appt with my uro next Wed. 1/12 and not to lift anything heavier than a cup of water, now let's get hubby to believe that. He'll never allow the bedrest thing at all. Grrrrrrrrr I really didn't need this.

Why did I have to be so stupid last night, all to get attention and it didn't even work. I didn't want medical attention, I wanted some loving attention from my husband who seems to think that just because it's been a week I'm totally healed up. He has no idea what he's talking about but see his Mom had surgery a couple weeks ago and was supposed to be off for 12 weeks and went back to work after 2 days and I should be just like her you see. That's the kind of stuff I have to put up with here, Nice, huh?

I'll keep you updated but at this point it doesn't look like anyone's gonna do anything unless I take the initiative which I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! :cussing:

I'm about to have a full blown panic attack here pretty soon or throw up which ever comes first.

It doesn't make a lot of difference at this point whether you see the physicians assistant or go to ER --- please see someone today. If you have an infection, waiting even one day could result in extremely serious illness. If it appears to be infection, the physician will find time to see you after the PA checks it.

If you have to --- get a taxi and go, but do get some attention.

And remember, you know your own body better than anyone else. Please do not do any more lifting until your doctor says it's okay.

As I wrote in another post I agree with Donna your health is at risk. You are also risking the interstim unit itself!!!! I understand wanting attention from your husband but if you have a infection this could be life threating for you. IF YOU HAVE TO GO ALONE GO!!!!! Even if is to a ER. Call a cab or a friend or someone your life and health is much more important that not wanting to do this alone. You should not be bleeding nor draining this much if the interstim unit is healing properly. I had no draining no bleeding when I had my surgery and please do not lift anything else....

dr. morton/uro called in some lortabs, have to be off my feet and in bed until wednesday in alot of pain, at least 2 torn sutures and lots of bleeding but said it's good it's draining but if it start's pooling they'll have to open it back up and irrigate the infection away so i'm not out of the woods yet. i'm bleeding double what i was last night so i have to watch it close and if i start running a fever, e.r. bound I am. It's not puss or white drainage just blood so the doc isnt' as concerned. I'm more concerned then they are about this I guess. The whole area is turning yellow which i dont' think is good at all. I'll let you all know if something changes, have to get back to bed, hurts to sit. It hurts worse today then the day I had surgery and I thought that was bad enough. I'm still not sure I shouldn't be going to ER or an urgent care clinic but my Mom and hubby are helping me keep bandages dry and blood free and watching for infection. My bed's callling me.....

I'm so stupid! I was doing so well until I had to shovel that dang snow... :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :bonk: :bonk: :bonk:

Thanks for all your concern  you all!

I agree going to er is worth the trip (unlike the one for my to duncan doughnuts :cussing: )lol had to throw in a funny to make you smile...
If indeed there is an infection brewing.. it can go into your blood stream.. and then your looking at a few days in hospital stay on iv anti's. Your doctor is right to a point! it cannot be restitched.. but it never was stitched in the first place its taped closed and then this glue type stuff put on it.. You can go to er and get it cleaned properly and they can re tape it with teri strips (think thats what they call em) hope you go to er... and have this looked at.... (((((hugs)))) your husband shouldn't compare people.. I know exactly where yor coming from mine is a top rate ass most of the time. Some men just don't get it and the ones that do are far and few between.. Honey we are not the only ones with husbands like that... trust me... I use to try to do things for hubby to take notice... and it never happened.. trying to get attention is like running into a brick wall.. why do it?? he dose notice the things I don't do.. and I reply.. oh am I the only one that lives here? lol
Just so you know.. someone dose understand how you feel...
Hugs

Not only am I bed ridden until Wednesday but I can't lift anything heavier than a cup of water because they don't know how many layers down I ripped open. I really did a bang up job this time. It never fails, I always learn the hard way. I'm headed back to bed. Thanks again for all the support, if things don't perk up by tomorrow I'm going to the urgent care clinic. I can barely walk the pain is so intense and my whole butt cheek *sorry to be so graphic* feels like I got the poop kicked right out of me. Did too much too soon and now I'm paying the price....

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions, we'll see how things are tomorrow, that was the uro/surgeon's directions. Pray for me...

please take care of yourself--you have probably earned yourself some more down time for recovery. Please do exactly what your doc. tells you. Don't worry about everybody else---they should be worrying about you. If you have to lay in the bed for two more weeks, so be it!!!!! Let your husband worry with the snow and everything else. I am sure if he had just had a foreign object surgercily implanted in his ass he would milk it for everything it is worth. Remember take care of yourself---you are the only mother your children have and the only wife he has. Put yourself first and get well no matter how long it takes. I am having the temporary one don on Mon. the 10th and I have learned valuable lessons by not taking care of myslef under doc. orders. Believe me I am going to do exactlly what my doc. tells me too and milk it for all it's worth. Women don't get enough respect when we have to go through something like this!!!!!! Hang in there and be strong and fight those urges to get up and do thinkgs when you know you are not!!!!!!!! Let someone else take care of u for a while you will be well soon enough-----then you will be wishing you were laying back in bed. Good Luck
