We took in a male yellow lab. He's either just turned one or is going to be one soon. He got neutered yesterday. He's a BIG boy with this big ol basketball head and huge paws. He's also a bed hog. And he snores. sigh. I guess if I could sleep all night without having to get up to pee I'd be more upset about losing sleep.

So, that makes 3 dogs for me and 4 cats.

Oh, yeah... the 4th cat.

"CHATTY" wandered up to the house a few months ago. I was not sure if she was a he or not, so I let it be. She warmed up tot he kids and they could pick her up and she's rub on their legs. So we started feeding her outside. The poor thing was all bones. You could see her hips and ribs!!! So, after about 2 weeks of feeding she went "poof" and her belly was FAT. Guess what? She's pregnant. So I don't knwo when the kittens are due. I've moved her into the house with all the extreme cold we've had and she's using the litter box, and scratching up the recliner.

I've not had kittens since I was in grade school. Anyone have advice on this? I know nothing about kittens. I don't know when they are due. She has nipples poking out, and she loves her belly scratched. And she likes my husband's polar fleece blanket throw on his chair.

Thanks. Michelle

Well Michelle....you can let the kittens nurse when they come and if you want to wean them off....get some Kitten Milk and instant ceral for Kittens. Both are made (or called) KMR (maybe it stands for Kitten Meal Replacement?)

Anyways my kittens loved that stuff!

When she's ready to give birth you'll know it because she may either hide, tear up the whole house while screeching & meowing or both.

Our Cat (yearsss ago) had kittens behind the recliner...at the time it was the warmest area and least traveled portion of the apartment.

Good Luck Michelle!
Love and hugs,
y. :)

Talking about cats and "yearsss ago", I had a small black cat who's name was Cat. Yeah...I know, not very original. She had her kittens on my son's bed. He was only about 5 years old and thought it was cool that she chose his bed until he noticed all the mess. My suggestion is to "introduce" her to a box lined with a soft material. Maybe your husbands fleece throw? :lmao: Seriously...buy a couple of yards of fleece and let your husband use it for a few days so it has his scent on it. Then put it in the box and put the real throw away until the kittens are born. :)

We just have our one dog, I learned along time ago (probably from my Mom) that when the kids say we want this pet and we will take care of it, yeah, well, guess who takes care of it?? Mom does!!. This is what pretty much has happen with us. We have had her since she was a puppy. She sleeps in our bed at the foot of my side and if I move which I do, she growls and comes up to my pillow and sleep. Last night, I had an extra blanket on the floor and she slept there by the heater all night long!! She likes her comfort.

Some advice about a pregnant kitty. Keep your closet doors and bedroom doors closed. Same for utility room and anywhere else she might climb into soft fabric to have her babies. You might try fixing a box with a cover over it and a "door" for her to go in so she has a place to hide. Usually cats will want to hide to have their kittens. It's not unusual for kittens to be born in laundry baskets, ironing baskets, or someplace else where it will be a real mess to clean up.

Good luck!

babies babies babies...........are your kids anticipating this? :-) They are a cool age.....

I really believe pets are good for families. We lost our poodle this summer and 6 days later I brought home a kitten (chronic allergies now for me but) and this little prince sleeps with my husband and I. Even when we have had a hard day.........this little guy makes us smile before bed........purrrrrrrrrrring so loud.....kneading our chests (or backs) going back and forth between us like he doesn't know who to cuddle with......

A big dog though???? lol...............glad to see you here with such fun news! XOXOXOXO Julie B
