Hello ~ my name is Eloise and I was diagnosed with IC in October, 2004. I still have burning but have been able to eliminate having to run to the bathroom every half hour to an hour by staying on the IC diet. It took a month of staying on the diet before I noticed a big difference. I do have a couple of questions though. When I was in to see my urologist just before Christmas, I still hadn't gotten any relief yet at that time and he wanted to start the DMSO instillations but I wanted to wait until after the holidays. I am scheduled next week for my first one. I am also being treated for a yeast infection by my GYN that doesn't want to clear up. Since I was in to see my urologist, I have had a huge improvement with my bladder. I usually don't have to go to the bathroom but only every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Should I still go ahead with the DMSO instillations since I am so much better or wait? And shouldn't I wait until after my GYN gets my yeast infection under control. I've been dealing with that for 5 weeks now It's not real bad but it is there. I know I should probably talk to my urologist about all of these concerns but I wanted to see if anybody has any thoughts on this. What are the pros and cons on delaying the instillations until I get worse again?

I've learned so much from this board already. Thanks to all of you!!!!

i just got over an yeast infection my self and i didn't even know i had it it showed up in my urine and my uro put me on some type of medicine forgot the name of it but it started with a D. it was only two pills must have takeing care of it.
another thing you might want to try i can't promise this will work but it does for me.
after you pee each time take a clean wash cloth dip it in a bowl of of a mixer of white vinger and warm water. wash your self after each time you pee. this should help clear up the yeast infection up.

I do my own cocktail treatments at home it has never bothered me to do a treatment with a yeast infection but yet i don't never get them them bad anymore. but i use too.
and when there was real bad i wouldn't had never thought of taking a treatment.
Please talk to your uro before starting your treatments he needs to be aware of this yeast infection.
sending you hugs and prayers
Rhonda

:welcome: to the ICN!
I would definatly go ahead with the DMSO. Our symptoms will very from time to time but that does't mean treatment isn't necessary. I have never heard of a yeast infection being a reason to delay the DMSO but if yours is particularly bad find out what your doc thinks. I want to be sure to tell you that when you get the treatment be sure to ask for lidocaine separate first and than do the DMSO it makes things go A LOT better. Personally I think doing the DMSO while you are feeling a bit better can prevent you from feeling worse again.....I would consider that a better way to start than when you are feeling your worse since DMSO usually increase symptoms for about a day or so before you feel better. I hope you have a lot of sucess with this!

I absolutely think you should let your uro know about the yeast infection before getting the DMSO instilled. I suggest you talk with the urologist about whether you should begin DMSO right now or postpone it for a few weeks. Some ICers do very well just by following the diet, but unless you are totally symptom free on the diet, I think you should consider going ahead with the DMSO.

I do agree that lidocaine instilled before the DMSO does help with the discomfort.

Sending encouraging hugs,
Donna

I want to thank all of you for your responses to my questions about the DMSO treatments and yeast infections. I am going to call my urologist tomorrow and see what he wants to do.

I am learning so much on these boards and everybody is so kind and caring.

Thank you, again.

I agree with Donna... definitely discuss everything with your uro before starting the DMSO treatments. He'll know much more what to do when he has the full story, and you'll feel better after having your questions answered by an expert :)

Good luck getting rid of the yeast infection... they are nasty, and I hope you are rid of it soon!!! :grouphug:
