I hope everyone had a nice holiday. I have unfortunatly been stuck in a 3 to going on 4 month flare. I have been to my Uro several times and had two Elmiron bladder instills done with little sucess. This whole thing started when I stupidly went off my Elmiron for a week and ate things that irritate me. I had been in remission for 4 years with no symptoms. I would have a bad flare about once a year that would last about two months at the most. So now I am so scared that I am going to stay this way forever. I just scheduled my first DMSO instill for this week. I am also scared that the DMSO will not work and of the pain the instill may cause. Sometimes all I do is cry all day because of all the things I can't do right now. I can't have sex , excercize or ride my horse. Thank god I have a wonderful and understanding boyfriend. If anyone has any positive feedback or had similar experiences please share. I am at my witts end.

Hi there,
Are you back on your Elmiron? There isn't too much you can do about your flare, other than watch what you are eating, take your meds, (pain, pyridium, elmiron, whatever LOL), try the heating pad, and just wait for the instills to kick in. Some girls try baking soda, and that helps them. I also recommend drinking A LOT OF WATER, to dilute your urine and make the flare a little easier. I hope the instills work well for you.
Hugs,
Jess

A heating pad or hot water bottle can be very good friends during a flare. Hope you feel better soon.
Elmiron gave me five months of remission and then stopped working entirely for me.
Blessings, Lori
Like Jess I am wondering if you are back on the Elmiron. Good luck - I sure hope you feel better soon. :kissing:

The answer to your question is yes I have been taking Elmiron for the past three months plus my elavil. I think I really just screwed myself up by going off for a week and then eating things I shoundn't. I also went of a trip to Las Vegas in between which could have caused some of it. It's reall weird I flared horrialbly before I left for my trip. I got to Vegas and I was fine no symptoms. Then I come home and I start flaring on and off again for the last 3 months. I don't get. That is why I am finally going in for the instills usually my flare would be gone by now. I can't figure it out.

I did DMSO for a year. It worked for a year but then my system became immune to it and I started on elavil.

I take a bath when it gets really bad (about 3am a lot of mornings). I'm also starting to do that pain/hypo CD offered on the IC store. No matter how much pain I'm in, it relaxes me and it helps me go to sleep (usually during it- but that's OK).
I hope you start feeling better soon!
