tramadol question?(ultram)

My question if anyone can help me is about the pain med tramadol? Any luck with it? thanks

It is not nearly strong enough for me, but I recently tried 2 instead and got adequate relief for moderate pain. Just not long lasting. I have a very high tolerance to pain meds though. I was given a 30mg oxycontin the other night for pain, and never having taken one before expected the worst and assumed I would if anything sleep the pain away...NADA! Up till one am and awake again @ 5 am....with no pain relief whatsoever....it actually freaks me out that my pain is not easily controlled and yet I can stop pain meds without tapering at all. My Dr. and i try to figure this out, presumably what is called a paradoxical reaction. :loco:

Anyway, I have taken Ultram, but don't feel I am your best hope in an objective way. Good luck!

Tramadol (Ultram) is classified as a central analgesic. It binds to opioid receptors, inhibits reuptake of norepinephrine,serotonin; does not cause histamine release or affect heart rate. It is used in the management of moderate to severe pain. (Mosby's Nursing Drug Reference)

I did not take the drug long enough to know if it would help or not. It caused extreme nausea, dizziness, and drowsiness in my case. The nausea is what caused me to stop the medication.

If you do take the drug, be aware of the GU side effects: urinary retention/frequency, menopausal symptoms, dysuria, menstrual disorder.

Everyone responds differently to medication. What works for one may not work for another. My side effects may not be yours. It may be worth trying.

I took a sister drug, "Ultracet" which was ultram and tylenol. It didn't help a great deal. It only made me tired.

I have taken tramadol and it did not work for me. I've been on I believe all the "cets" and the only one that works for me is Percocet. The only problem is that the drs dont want to keep me on it. I've tried Oxycontin but the pain doc that prescribed it to me, I believe put me on too much too soon combined with the Percocet, which he also kept me on and over medicated me with that too. I'm currently taking Elmiron,which works for me, Amitryptline, Ditropan XL, pyridium and pyridium plus when the spasms act up and now on Kadian, which is a slow released Morphine. The current pain managment doc is prescribing it to me. I've taken it for 2 days now and I dont like the side effects. I dont know if I'll stay on it or not. Has anyone taken this drug? So, I hope you find something that works for you and also a good uro that works for you. If you dont feel comfortable with your treatment please feel free to move on to a new doc! I hope this helps!

I have taken ultram and it was very effective for me. As with every pain medication I have tried, it does cause nausea for me so I take phenergan with it.
