I cannot take tylenol because of allergies and alot of the narcotics have this in it... has anyone taken Demerol for bladder pain. I have tried oxydose(liquid form of oxycontin) and it gave me hives..also does anyone experience itching with narcotics???

I am allergic to demerol but often get itching and or hives with narcotics.. I would let your doctor know if you have either one. Good luck and hope your able to find a pain reliever that works for you. Happy holidays,
Kelly

Just be certain your pharmacist and your physician know of your allergic reactions so they won't order anything that will be a problem for you. You might also ask your doctor to order something "just in case" you have itching from a medication.

Itching from narcotics is a quite common reaction; even though I don't get it all the time, I do get it sometimes, especially if I've been in a flare and have taken more than one or two pills of Percocet to try and control breakthrough pain. It even mentions it in the drug info my pharmacist provides with each med he fills for me, so it's not uncommon. Definitely discuss this with your physicians and your pharmacists; they can prescribe things that don't have the ingredients you're allergic to, and can also prescribe things to go along with your narcotics, such as antihistamines, that can help with that itchy scratchy reaction.

As you've found out there are many pain relievers out there that do not contain Tylenol (acetominophen) -- Demerol is one, MS-Contin (morphine sulphate is another), and Oxycontin is a third. These last two are extended release, so you'd need to discuss a breakthrough painkiller with your doc; this is a med you can take when you get pain despite taking the long acting pill -- often happens when the pill is wearing off and the levels in your bloodstream are lower.

Just have a heart-to-heart about available options with your doctor -- I feel you'll be able to find a combination of things that is just right for you! :)

Thank god for medical marijuana & hydrocodone. I wouldn't be able to function normally without them. My IC makes my back hurt, pelvis knifed, testicles slayed. I can't tell you how much it sucks to wake up every morning with a hurting pelvis & back, you get up and a few minutes walking around later your balls start to hurt from the back side under. The room lights up and you feel elevated, the pains horrible. Then the rest for the day it buzzes around and flares again and again >.<

If I don't have me pain management I wouldn't get anything done.
