Hello,
I have a 4 year old daughter and she sometimes complains of burning suring urination and when I took her to the doctor they said her urine culture came back fine. Sometimes she will also get red down there and I have to put some desitin on it. The other day there was some clear mucus or something down there. Could she have it? Is it hereditary? I had problems when I was 5 too.

Could she have a yeast infection? Has she been on antibiotics?

They tested for that. They didn't test her for UTI because he said it's rare a child of her age would have it.

Oh, I thought you said they did test for UTI (when they did a urine culture)? Little girls do get UTIs. I'm surprised they told you that. If she did have one it would explain her symptoms. I'm surprised they wouldn't test for UTI, but would do a vaginal culture.

There are many different things that could be causing your little girl's symptoms. The first thing that comes to mind is that many children just love those bubbly kid soaps that go in the bath tub --- but some kids don't tolerate them at all. It could be your laundry soap. Our allergist said to use detergent, not soap. And children do get UTIs. My niece's little girl had many, many UTIs. They ended up taking her to a urologist and she was on antibiotics for what seemed like a long time. She's in graduate school this year and hasn't had bladder problems since she was a little girl.

The urine culture should have identified any infection, but not allergic reactions.

Sending healing thoughts,
Donna
