COULD ELMRION CAUSE BLOOD IN YOUR STOOL?
I HAVE JUST NOTICED IN THE LAST FEW DAYS THAT THERE WAS BLOOD.

I have blood but it isn't in the stools but caused by fissures (?). My stools have been very hard since starting Elmiron. Seems to be the opposite side effect from others on these boards. Oh well, I was always a little different!

I have blood in my stoles as well. I have a hemiroid (not sure on spelling) though. I believe it's from that. I would mention it to your uro though the next time you go though. Chelsey

The best way to resolve this is to see your Dr and have a stool sample taken/given, Sounds worse than it is...however, if is far more like likely it is from 'straining" and fissures/hemmeroids than from the meds. Get it checked soon, so you can just rule anything out. I am sure it will be okay. ;)

Was the blood red or black? If red, that is usually caused by a hemorroid or fissure (crack) in the anus. If the blood colors the stool black (digested blood), then it is usually from bleeding in the stomach or small intestines. You mention you just had a barium enema and an attempt at a colonoscopy, they may have nicked something that is bleeding a bit and should heal up in a couple days... or constipation from the barium itself could have caused a fissure from straining to get it out. Hope you feel better soon!

I started experiencing rectal bleeding about 3-4 days after I started Elmiron, and I was sure that was the cause. It turned out, I had a hemmmhroid (sp?). I was told "roid" episodes last for about two weeks, and that's just what happened. The bleeding stopped after two weeks. If you are noticing any other "roid" symptoms, like itching, I would try Anusol suppositories. They work really well.

I have had some blood in my stools as well. The doctor told me it was rectal fissures and did a pokey exam. I also had a sigmoidscopy which just exams the rectal area to be double sure nothing else was going on because colon cancer can cause bleeding. Not to alarm you, but it's better to have the doctor check things out to be safe.
Good luck,

You know, I also have IBS. So with bouts of the flucuation of stools, no wonder I have broken fissure at times. Do you have that too?

People can have IBS with constipation. Yes, I do know the lack of fruits we can eat. Bananas and apples or applesauce have always been a favorite of mine, but now I only eat watermelon and pears. Not much fiber if at all.
I hope nothing is seriously going on with the change in your mammogram. I'm due again early next year.

I see you are on this website alot today just like me. Work is slow today. The commercial on TV for IBS w/constipation comes on alot. It is not for people who also get diarrhea like me. That was diagnosed in Oct. 2004. Then two months later, the IC problem started. Boo!!!!!
I was a Coca Cola drinker everyday. It is so disappointing to have to eliminate it along with my favorite chocolate. I did have one See's candy today.

Rubjen,
What is an Interstim? Doesn't sound pleasant. Are you on permanent disability? Do you have to pee often even without drinking anything? There are times I have to go every 15 minutes, but mostly I go every hour with or without liquids.
I get heparin instills every month. I finally gave in to start Elmiron;my first capsule left me totally nauseated. The second capsule made me more nauseated. I'm waiting to talk with the uro to find out if I should continue with 1 capsule.
