The last week or two I have been having on and off flares. It was really bad on Sat. as we were getting ready to go to one of our kids houses to celebrate Christmas.

I was in agony and I didn't know how I was going to make this 45 minute drive. I had taken some of my medication and it didn't phase the bladder urges I was having. I am trying new medication and don't have the refill back yet from mail order and the 3 I had left I wanted to save for our long 13 hour trip this coming week.

So I had my husband stop at the drugstore. I knew that Uristat was sold over the counter now. I had never used it before but I knew I had to try something. OMG I will never be without this in my "IC toolbox". I took 3 of them that day throughout the day and evening and it saved the day. It helped so much.

I know that this medication is not suppose to be used all the time but if I need it every now and then to help with a flare when I have to be away from home, I will certainly have it on hand.

For the rest of you who use this or Pyridieum, how does your Dr. prescribe it and how often do you use it? This will be discussed with my Dr. at my next check-up. :)

I use the pyrdium plus I get a script for 30 pills and use it for burning.. Mine usually last a few months. For me pain is more often than burning.

I think that stuff works great as well. Its just bad when people who actually have UTI's take it and think they are getting better b.c it makes them feel better. That happened to a friend of mine and she thought the UTI went away b.c the Uristat was making her feel better, and she ended up getting a kidney infection. SO if you know you dont have a UTI for sure, its a good help. But if you do have a UTI the uristat can cover up the pain and you think it goes away and it can lead to something worse. If it works for you then you should use it, I just also wanted to bring the other issue up. Hope thats okay :-). I'm def. not saying anything bad about the Uristat. I have used it and it has helped with the pain a bunch. -Samantha

I guess just make sure its a flare up and not an actual UTI b/f you use it.

I wish that I could take this and get better. Instead, it seems to actually cause a worse flare in my bladder. Shrug. Getting really tired of this IC stuff. I hope 2005 will be the year I find some relief.
