Hello...
Does tylenol or advil make your bladder pain worse??? I cant take either one because of the horrible flare they give me...I dont know what to do when I have headaches or other problems that require these non--narcotic medications????

Tylenol does cause my IC to flare up. But, I can take it for headaches if I take Prelief with it. I take 2 Preliefs to each 200mg tablet.

I also use the Migraine Ice patches you can get overthecounter at a drugstore. They are cooling gel patches to stick on your forehead or back of neck. I also just bought a stick cream for headaches also, but haven't tried it yet.

Hope you find something that helps.

I'm okay with Tylenol, but Advil causes severe gastric distress/pain for me. When I have a headache, I take coated aspirin. It seems to work well for me with no flare.

I can take either coated aspirin or Tylenol --- but not Advil. Advil causes bladder pain for me. I think Kadi's suggestions of taking Prelief with Tylenol or aspirin is a good one if they bother you. Both meds are kind of acidic when they're metabolized, which can lead to bladder pain and other distress, and the Prelief can help with this. Also, do try the headache patches. I use those too and they do help if you put one on and lie down for a while. :)

Good luck :)

My doctors used to prescribe me tylenol 3 all the time until finally one doctor told me it contained caffeine. Ever since then I've avoided tylenol like the plague. I take Emtec a prescription from my doctor when I am in pain. Not sure if this is available in the U.S. or not.

Just wanted to say "hi" to everyone! :) I'm a new member and have been spending a lot of time reading things on this website. I really appreciate all the information I've found here, and have also ordered several of the recommended books. It's so great to know that I'm not alone and that there are others who understand what IC is.

Although I've been managing IC for a year now, I haven't had any of the procedures I've been reading about, but I just made an appointment with the urologist to see if he can help me. He told me last January to try to live with Uristat. If I couldn't, then I'd have to undergo a cystoscopy. I've noticed from my reading that there are possible other ways to diagnose IC, so I intend to ask him about that. I'm trying the bland diet and am hoping that it works. I'm currently on Cipro because of another UTI.

Okay...here is my question: is Aleve okay to take for pain, or can it cause a flare? Am I better off with Ecotrin? I was taking Celebrex for a while, but it didn't seem to help me at all.

Thanks!

What does everyone think about the new information about Aleve that came out yesterday? :hmm: After stopping Celebrex for arthritis pain (after the new study found it caused heart problems), I've been able to manage the pain with Aleve and not have to take it every day. Now that they've said that there's a problem with Aleve, it's driving me crazy. :loco:

Any thoughts or suggestions? :D

Yes, a good heart to heart with your Primary Physician. They are pulling so many of these newer generation meds (rx & OTC) off the market, that a chronic pain person deserves choices. The good old fashioned pain meds (narcotics-ahem) still work the best for most people. Or so it seems.

Ironically I had this very chat with my Dr. yesterday. I hate that I need meds for pain, but I do, so we talked a lot about what leads to tolerance issues and when does the red flag go up. So far, I am fine, though I worry about the use all the time.

Since i have tried it every which way, we have gone back to Percocet and I manage very easily on that. Though I take it only at night and not routinely...only when pain is not helped by alternative methods.

Good luck, but you will probably need something else available.

Be Very careful about the amount of Tylenol you take....and NEVER take it with beer/liquor. I did have very bad migraines--- took tylenol everyday. However I did have a liver failure. So the acte. in tylenol killed my liver. I thank God everyday for the Liver Transplant donor.......had it since July1994.
Imitrex is great for migraines.......
God Bless!!!!!
