hi...im not really sure about all of this...i think i mite have ic but im not completely sure. I found an ad in a mag and it described symptoms that i've been having for over a year. It all started when i started havin sex with my boyfriend...could that have triggered it? will i still be able to have children? Who can i talk to...i live in a small town and i would be humiliated if i had to be diagnosed by my doctor...do i have to go to a gynocologist? or a dialysis center? I just thought for a long time that i had a really bad UTI but after tryin some Azo-ultra (uti antibiotic) and still havin the symptoms, i realized that it was somethin else...i kept hopin it would go away...its worse when im sexually active so im not anymore. i just need someone to talk to...someone to help me out...o yeh, im only 16...i cant talk to my mama bc she'd flip...ive grown up in an extremely christian based home...i just may have really messed up...please email me.....tigerkirstey@hotmail.com and mark the subject as ic thanx...

Hi Kirstie,
Here is a link to the handbook http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/ it has a lot of helpful information. There is a link for located Md in most areas and support groups available. You can talk to your Md if you are comfortable. They can refer you to a Uro who can help determine if its IC or not. You could just explain to your Md your symptoms. They should be able to head you in the right direction. My gyn was the first to suspect IC and recommended a uro. Ic can cause some to experience painful sex but so can other things. I hope your able to get some answers soon.

P.s also in the handbook is a diet section you can try it and see if it helps your symptoms until you can see your doctor.

I'm not sure why you're so concerned about your mother "flipping out." Interstitial cystitis is not a sexually transmitted disease. No one knows what causes it, and there are children who have never been sexually active who are affected by it.
It would be a good idea to talk to your mother, as she cares about you and would want to know if something were causing you pain.
As for the possibility of a UTI, as far as I know AZO is an analgesic (pain killer), not an antibiotic. So it may in fact be a UTI. you need to see a doctor about this.
if you've had a UTI for a year, at this point it could have severe complications and possibly permanent damage. Please get help before it gets any worse.

I honestly think you should let your mother know you are in pain so you can get some medical attention. There is absolutely no evidence that sex causes IC --- it may aggravate the condition and cause pain if you do have IC. You are going to need the support of your family if you do have IC. I think the sooner you talk to your mother the better. She loves you. You need her.
Sending warm encouraging hugs,
Donna

Please, please, please talk with your mother. You do need to see a doctor about the symptoms you are having. Don't put it off because of embarrassment. IC is a bladder disease...not something you have to feel ashamed about. :kissing:
