Ok, girls, who out there thinks that their IBS gets worse by using either a contraceptive patch, the Pill, or hormone replacement? Or for that matter, anyone worse before their period? I'm on the Evra patch, and if I use it continuously for a couple of months without a break, it seems like my hormone levels get too high and I swear it creates a horrible IBS flare. The flare goes away within 24 hrs. of taking off the patch. Just curious to hear what others think about this. Thanks!

I have to first admit that docs said my IBS was tied in with my Chrones but I would say a definate yes to symptoms being affected for me!

really odd, i decided to skip my period with birth control this month and since then i've been having really bad cramps. i haven't had an ibs flare up in months, so that is probably what's going on.
weird.
no more trying to skip the sucky parts of womanhood for me.

Well, I am on the pill, and I spend most of the month constipated. I've always been that way. I know my hormones, right before my period effect my IB, because that's the only time of the month I am not constipated.

I do have one more thought...since my hysterectomy it has way way worse!!!!!!!! I had no idea what was going on! I would call a hysterectomy a big hormonal change and it majorily affected my IBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, to add my fairly uneducated 2 cents. I was told that ibs gets worse with age and menopause. So something hormonal going on there. Now that my ibs has turned from c-type to mostly d-type, I find I feel best in the few days PMS because I get constipated during that time, which cancels out the diarrhea. :hmm:
Whoa, tell me, how many places can you go and talk the intimate details of the bowels and bladder and not offend anybody? I love this site!

This thanksgiving I found out once again how bad my IBS is....I took all the medicine I was supposed to and ate things I should be able to tollerate and was still extremely tight gassed in stomach and hurting. I keep searching for more ideas of how to help me and couldn't be more upset with the information I am seeing. Does anyone know a good IBS site...with true helpful information??????????
I feel sorry for my digestive system with all it has been through with other things....but IBS has turned into the revenge on me....and I didn't give my digestive system those other diseases.
I really need help with this! Thanks a bunch. I know I have complained before but diet just isn't enough for me...I could never be more strict!! I need more leeway or I will fade away!
:help: :help: :help:

Question for all of you IBSrsss...Do you have flank pain as a symptom? I have not been diagnosed with IBS yet (gi appt in Jan)...but I have terrible flank pain which I was told could be from IC/PFD or IBS...I also started the pill for the first time this past sunday...I don't know what is going on but I feel terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Jamie...and its really okay to feel sorry for yourself, we all do it.
In answer to the question...no hormone therapy for me, but it's Day 2 and i can confirm the IBS connection unfortunately...and its been this way for me for 30 years at least. hormones rule everything, especially flares. :(
Katrina, I am no expert on this. New to it too, although had it for years and everyone in my family has it! Try this site as a starting point - helpforibs.com
Family members (non-ic) love the cookbook. Last time I looked, it was a regular cookbook, as in not ic compatible, but I didn't look very carefully. The site has good information and I will be picking up my own copy of the book and will try to convert it to ic safe foods. That will be a challenge because I am very diet sensitive for the ic plus I am a terrible cook. But maybe we can all figure it out together.
Hope this helps.
