When I need help with pain, my uro orders pain meds for me. I don't need them full time, however, and some doctors feel pain specialists are more qualified to treat patients who need pain medications full time.

I hope you get some help soon.

Warm healing thoughts,
Donna

My uro is not available for pain medications, unless it follows a surgical procedure. He rxd for me for about a year on and off following my IC dx.

I have found that dealing with my GP (internal medicine) is much better for me and he has a much more accurate understanding of my other health issues.

This is what works for me, but everyon's health team varies. I hope you get some relief and some sleep soon.

Oh, I do hope you feel better soon. :( Some docs seem willing to prescribe them and some won't. In any case, I hope he gives you some help in treating the pain.

Hope you can get some sleep through the day today. :kissing:

I hope you get some pain meds. I have trouble getting them because I dn't have a urologist right now and because I am just starting out with my career I tend to move around a lot, so a new GP every 10 months or so. That and because of my age (23) the GPs don't want to prescribe pain meds to me because they are scared I'll get addicted (even though I hardly ever take them unless it's really necessary)
But FYI if you didn't know one doctor told me that you don't want tylenol 3 or tyenol because they contain caffeine.

Not all doctor are willing to give pain medicine out for long term use . Some doctor believe pain medicine isn't helpful to ic pat. :(
If he want help you ask him to send you to a pain clinic I do hope you get feeling better soon.

I think I have hit this topic from every angle. I have been to a pain clinic and gone through my GP. While I had issues last week with my hosp last week, that has been the best for me. He knows my other issues(health wise)and is most accessible. I forgot to tell ya that the last guy I saw after I parted ways got busted by the DEA. Praise God I got out of there.

Good luck and I am here if you need me. Also, it is a patient right for pain control no matter what your age.

Hugs,
Barb :grouphug:

just referred me to a pain mgmt spec. here in austin.

my uro doesn't want anyone after me or him.

it is the safest way to go...

imo....

my uro did give me the meds, though.

we both thought it was best.

good luck!

I'm in a bit of an unusual situation in that my uro gives my my pain medications, including long term pain control -- but it is because she is actually not only part of a urology dept, she is also part of a pain clinic. Here in Memphis we have the Bladder Control and Pelvic Pain Center, and I am seen there. My urologist, Dr. Ragi Wiygul, works closely with pain specialist Dr. Daniel Brookoff at this pain management clinic, which is specifically for pelvic pain patients.

Everyone is different in terms of where they get their pain meds, and it often depends on how much you need and how often you need to take them.

I hope your doc has helped you get your pain under control, and can refer you to a pain clinic if necessary! Before going to the pain clinic, I suggest you ask if they've worked with IC and/or other pelvic pain patients before... if they have, you'll have much better luck than if they have not. :) Good luck :)\

I have never tried a pain clinic, that might be an option. My dr has been out of town to conferences and whatnot. :(

Er..I am 29 do they not give meds to younger people as much?

Absolutely not, you have a right to have your pain controlled. I'm 34 and while I have just had a recent saga, things are better now.

I was 29 when I was diagnosed; about a month away from my 30th birthday. I'm still 30 now, and I am receiving pain meds. I think some doctors may shy away from prescribing to younger patients (I've heard this mentioned on the boards before), but my belief is that is very unfair. If you are in pain, you're in pain, and it does not matter if you're 5 or 50!

Please keep trying to find someone who's willing to help. Your GP (primary care physician), or your gynecologist, maybe? Or, of course, the pain clinic idea. You need to have your pain treated and that is one of your basic rights as a human being.

I'm sorry you're going through such a tough time....I really wish there was more I could do, as I hate to hear of people with uncontrolled pain :(

Please, do keep searching.... it will pay off in the end!
