We have a neighbor who puts up enough Christmas lights to light an entire small community --- my computer is upstairs and I look out across a field and can see the gorgeous light display --- it's like having a giant Christmas card in my window.

He has our entire road putting up lights every year. Tomorrow, we'll put some up too. I do love the holidays.

Sounds lovely Donna, i love the lights also, I just hate to take it all down UGHH, and then put it all away again. Why is it decorations are so fun to drag out and put up but such a hassle to tear back down and sotre again . LOL. Enjoy your community of lights!!!!!

we put up lights in my dorm room (well, my roommate did, she spends more time here and i already did the halloween decorating) and at my boyfriend's house.

i kinda want to do something for hannukah too- blue lights maybe. i'm not religious and have a varied group of friends so we celebrate "chrismakkah" lol

The shops have been carrying Christmas items since October. It gets earlier every year. But you really know Christmas is nigh when the Santas are out in the streets giving lollies to the children.
I've just gotten in from some shopping where I had a laugh with one of the traders. Poor old Santa in his thick and hot red Santa suit, full breard, hat, boots and all.
It was 30deg. celsius yesterday and still quite warm today.
We agreed that Aussie Santas should be able to wear board shorts and tank tops.. Red of course!
It makes me laugh how here in Australia we still send cards with snow scenes and spray fake snow on our windows while outside its hot enough to fry an egg on the pavement.
Perhaps being upside down for so long has scrambled our brains Ha Ha !

I also love Christmas lights, we went out looking last night at lights. I haven't been in the Christmas spirit as much this year, but that is about to change. We had a rough Christmas last year with one of our kids, and it really had an impact on me. So today is the day I am going to finally decorate inside and make it feel more like Christmas here.

I have been trying to find my spirit amongst the madness of life. My husband has done everything so far and I am trying to handle the shopping.

Reading this post made me realize there is some good I can do. My mother is spending her second Christmas away from her former home, last year she was in a coma for 10 days during Christmas and this is her first in a nursing home. I think I will bundle her up and take her out for a ride around the neighborhoods in her state. What a treat for her to see the lights and house decorations!

Thanks Donna :kissing: for starting this thread...we forget how easy it is to just "enjoy" the moments.

The subdivision I used to live in did those bags with candles in them. Everyone in the subdivision got brown paper lunch bags, bought a bag of tea lights, put sand in the bags, lined them up on the road and we all lit the candles at dark on Christmas Eve. It was beautiful. It was a huge subdivision and if a neighbor wasn't home, we did their yard for them. People would drive from all over town to look at them. I don't have a husband to help me hang lights on my house so I think I'll do the bags in my yard and hope the rest of the neighbors catch on!

I got my tree up and lights put on yesterday. Tonight, I'll finish decorating the tree after work, would of done all of it yesterday, but wouldn't you know half of the lights were out, and I didn't have a car to go and get some more so I had to wait till my husband came home from work. The neighbors all had their trees up the Friday after Thanksgiving. After lunch, I got some garland to decorate my office cubie. Haven't really done much shopping yet, I will probably start next week.

i'm having latkes... no applesauce sadly.

yes, latkes have onion... hopefully they're cooked enough to be harmless, if not, still worth it.
