Hi There
I don't get flares very often, last night I ate pizza with everything (dumb I know). Anyway, woke up at 2am this morning felt like a cath with a knife blade had been inserted and ripped out of me. I have taken my Pyridium and lots of Ibuprofen. My back is killing me! Does anyelse get back pain? I haven't gotten this before. I am at work so there isn't alot I can do. Does anyones doc ever give pain meds?
Thanks
Jill

I get back pain sometimes. Heat feels wonderful. You can buy these thin heat patches, by Playtex, to attach to your clothes. No one can tell your wearing them. If I am in the car, I sometimes put a warm cup of water/coffee between my legs. The heat really helps the pain. (Just don't spill it) Hope you are feeling better soon!
That is what I have mostly is low back pain, it feels like it is on fire and now I have started feeling like my kidneys ache. I do not know why my kidneys are bothering me now? I dont have any infection just went to the uro.

One thing that can help you get out of your awful flare is to take some Tums or bicarbonate of soda --- and drink lots of water to help clear that pizza out of your system.
Have you had back pain with a flare before? If not, I suggest you talk to your doctor about it. Many of us do have back pain, but it could also be something completely unrelated to your IC.
I hope your flare is over soon.
Hugs,
Donna

I've found that I can tolerate pizza much better if I stick to veggies preceded by a dose of Prelief. I skip the pepperoni and sausage because the are full of preservatives and probably MSG. My favorite is cheese, green pepper, mushrooms, black olives on a thin crust. Yummmmmm!

Oh yes, I get back pain with my IC a lot -- real low down, right in the middle, right above my butt. My physical therapist and my uro both say that it is common to have pain there during an IC flare, as the ligaments and nerves that support the bladder and uterus connect at that point in the back... and if there is inflammation in the bladder it can "travel" along that neural pathway and make you feel as if your back is about to break.
However, you should probably discuss your back pain with your doctor if it's a new symptom -- especially if you feel your kidneys are involved. It's best to cover all your bases before you chalk it up to IC :)

I too get terrible back pain. This has been an issue for me long before IC joined my life. I actually fx my back in 1978. I find now that even with stretching, pilates and all the good things I do for my back (though not recently, I am humble enough to admit) that nothing is worse than the low back pain I get around a week before my period hits.
It is amazing to me that after all these years, I can still be so surprised at the level of pain, try to figure it out and then wham...I get my period and its crystal clear and better all at once.
That is my experience, but I would agree with the others and follow up with this...even a recent visit to your uro may not have been timely if this is new and/or your kidneys or muscle strain are involved.
If you aren't getting relief, I would check in again with someone.
I too get back and leg pain from IC as well, but it is usually a throb though my back, pelvis and legs.
Good Luck!

If I am in a flare w/ bad back pain I get a freezer bag full of ice and wrap that up in an old tshirt and put it under my clothes you know where then I lay down with my lower back on the heating pad. It looks really weird to most people but it helps me 9 times out of 10. Hope you feel better!
