View Full Version : Duration of IC Flare-Up?
It has been now 4 weeks since my surgery and I am feeling better most days but I had my first major IC flare-up over the thanksgiving weekend and it lasted for 3 days. I tried just eating bland foods, getting lost of rest and staying away from stress when possible but I wanted to know if a 3-day flare-up is uncommon and can anyone suggest a good coping stratedgy?
I also forgot to mention when I first posted this message that I experienced massive cramps in my abdomen during this 3 day IC flare-up. Has anyone else experienced massive cramps and had difficulty with movements :toilet: ? :hmm:
Thanks,
Mick

No, a 3-day flare up in not uncommon. If you ate anything out of the ordinary for Thanksgiving, that could have done it. Do you use a heating pad? That helps me a lot. I also drink lots of water even though it makes me go to the bathroom even more frequently. It seems to flush out whatever's in my bladder stirring up the trouble.
When I feel a flare coming on, a tall glass of water with a teaspoon of baking soda or a few TUMS can help. Some people use heating pad, some use ice packs to ease pain. 2-3 days is pretty common for my flares too.
Hope you feel better soon!
My flares last a few days - they have lasted longer, too. Thanksgiving is a great time - but it can also be a little stressful. The stress, even good stress, may have set off a flare, too.

Hi, I am new here. And yes a three-day flare is not uncommon. I can get flares that last a week sometimes. They will become easier to deal with as you discover what works best for your body. For me, I find a hot bath (no bubbles or anything) will work for a minor flare or help stop a flare from getting worse. I hope you figure out what works for you soon!
