Imagine reading a book right before Thanksgiving that so grosses you out :dizzy: ... that you nearly cancel Thanksgiving dinner. It's true! If you're a mystery fan, Lincoln & Child's "Still Life with Crows" maybe the creepiest Turkey book ever written. It's one of those really compelling, non-stop, page turning mysteries... not horror.... but, with each page, it gets creepier and creepier until, in the very last paragraph, it's the creepiest of all.

Turns out that this was the WRONG book to read before Thanksgiving because a big part of it took place in a turkey processing plant. Uggh... I will not describe that here. But, one huge joke in the book was how noone employed at the factory could eat turkey ever again. And, after finishing it at 2AM one night, I vowed to remove turkey from our menu as well.

You know a book is good (or bad?) when you finish it and then can't go to sleep without checking every door in the house again and again. I finally had to put the book in another part of the house before I could fall asleep.

In any case, after announcing to all that we would have ham rather than turkey, my family rebelled... and thus began my search for a local, farm grown turkey. Found it.... a free range, organic turkey that didn't set foot in a factory. I know... that sounds weird... but after the book, it was the ONLY way I could serve it.

Another book to recommend... PJ Tracy's debut mystery called Monkeewrench... about a gaming program that seems to create murders. Again, it's not horror... but one of the best mysteries I've read in years. Fantastic debut for a mother, daughter writing team!

I love a good mystery! What I'm really glad to hear is that I am not the only one who has to, from time to time, put a book in another part of the house to sleep!
