View Full Version : My success in treating IBS-type symptoms

Hi. For background, I have had IC (or something like it, who knows?) for about 15 years now. Unfortunately, I have an end-stage bladder now, with a capacity of <300cc during hydrodistension under general. I will probably be having augmentation surgery in the near future.

As to my bowel function, about 8 or 9 years ago I began having intestinal cramping, and swings in stool consistency. Gradually, things got quite bad. I would, at times, have arrestingly painful cramps (I literally couldn't move until they passed).

I have been diagnosed with intestinal bacterial overgrowth by hydrogen breath test. Treatment was to go off all food for as long as 3 weeks or more, taking Vivonex (essentially pre-digested nutrition). Once back on food, the only treatment was to take a low dose of Zelnorm at night. Results were that, for the first few days to a week, symptoms were improved. But soon thereafter they returned to their previous levels.

However, about a year ago a MD who is into alternative treatments suggested I try the following:

1 scoop of Glutamine Powder mixed in water (Douglas Laboratories)
1 Inuflora (Naturally Vitamins)
2 Sea Cure (Proper Nutrition, Inc.)

I take this twice a day, and I continue to take the zelnorm at night. My symptoms have improved dramatically! I can still give myself problems depending on what I eat, but in general I am nearly symptom free.

Has anyone else tried this? I find it quite effective.

Paul

I am very glad this has worked so well for you. We all have to remember as with any illness that every person reacts differently to treatment regimines. For anyone wanting to try this, please discuss this with your Dr.

Paul, thanks for sharing and I hope you continue to have good luck.

I'm gld you have found something that helps. I don't have IBS, but since I had rectocele surgery, it's very important that I avoid becoming constipated. At my doctor's suggestion, I take stool softeners and fiber pills (I just can't get the liquids down!).

Warm healing thoughts,
Donna
