View Full Version : It's the dreaded colonscopy
Ok, now it's my turn. Geez, I am just so worried about it. I have read previous postings on it. Guess it doesn't have to be that bad. I am worried that since I have ibs, the laxative is going to cause horrendous pain all night. Freaking out with fear! can anyone help calm me down. It's in 2 weeks, and all I can do is worry about it. Mostly worried about the prep killing my guts and my bladder.

thank you,

What kind of IBS do you have? If you are extremely worried about talk to your doc he may be able to adjust things for you. Maybe they will alow you to clean yourself out without the laxative. For me contipation and gas are painful, while diarhia is annoying and makes you very tired....there goal is some diarhia so...unless your IBS is giving you constant constipation that you cannot fix pain shouldn't be too bad. Just go whenever you feel like you have to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will pray for you that it goes well ....and prep isn't too hard on you. I say doing all this planning ahead of time can help make sure you aren't in to much pain. :grouphug:

The prep solution begins going clear through about a half hour to 45 minutes after the first cup --- I started drinking it at noon and spent the afternoon very near the bathroom. The way I did it was to drink an 8 ounce cup every ten minutes --- and once it got started going through, the 8 ounces would go through before the next cup. By 6:30 or 7:00 pm, the watery stools had stopped and I was exhausted so I slept very well that night. It's not as bad as it seems when you think of drinking all that gunk --- and it's over fairly quickly.
The colonoscopy itself takes only a few minutes and you shouldn't even feel it.
Sending encouraging hugs,

I had a colonoscopy a few years ago as part of the process that eventually diagnosed my IBS. For me, the preparation didn't cause any additional pain or discomfort. I definitely needed to stay near the bathroom once I started taking the preparation, but there were no extra symptoms from it. Any new medical procedure can be scary, but I think a colonoscopy is fairly simple compared to some of the other procedures IC and IBS patients go through.

I would ask to be scheduled early in the morning too. Mine was originally at four in the afternoon and I wasn't able to eat all day.
And we all agree on the prep being the worst thing. I just had small sips constantly because I couldn't bring myself to drink it fast. Good luck to you!
All I can say is bless you all for your replies. I need all the reassurances I can get!!
Love,
