View Full Version : It's a glorious fall day in the wine country

I wish that I could paint you a picture of the Dry Creek valley today. As I drove up to our warehouse here in Healdsburg California, the views were so rich and colorful. Gorgeous blue skies.... tempered by a few wisps of cloud and fog. If you stand on the hills and look into the valley below, it's like a quilt of fall colors. The vineyards are glorious right now.... thousands of acres... some are light gold... others dark gold. Some vines are a rich velvety burgundy.

Here and there are tiny columns of smoke rising up from various vineyards as they burn the last refuse from harvest. Leaves from the maple and oak trees are scattered all over the roads because of the giant windstorm that we had over the weekend. The driveway into the ranch must have been six inches deep in leaves. You can't help but smile to watch the black headed sparrows hopping about, looking for seed. It's the kind of day that creates peace in my soul. This I wish for you.

If you're homebound and in a flare, go outside and just sit for a few moments.... look at the sky and the birds. Listen for laughter. Look for small treasures. It's the perfect day to make cookies.... maybe big oatmeal cookies. How about lighting some candles in your fireplace? Fall is a season of harvest and of rest. You've worked hard.... and it's okay to take some time for you too. How about reading a book with your cat on your lap??? No cat? How about a heating pad instead!

Make some homemade soup. I try to make soup several times a month.. usually starting with just carrots, celery, fresh mushrooms, potatoes, noodles or barley and chicken stock .. and then add whatever I have around the house that looks good.

Well, I could go on and on... but work beckons. We're reconciling our accounts today.... and it's a JOBBBB! Let's hope that I feel peaceful at the end of the day!

That's the news from the ICN Shipping Center.. where, for the moment, it's quiet, peaceful and.. happily... there is still no line at the bathroom!

Jill :)
