In Australia as far as I know our health system works very differently from of that in the USA..We have few different private health care systems ( which do cost a fortune) & our main basic health cover is Medicare. I would say more people than not would only be covered by Medicare, but I do feel this will be changed in the very near future as our health system becomes worse & worse. At the moment you can still get reasonable medical assistance with only medicare ( however I believe that this is not the case in the cities). One thing that frustates me to bits is the fact that no matter what we can not get Elmirion unless we pay full price for it ( private cover or not) At about $155 a month ( my chemist has just been able to reduce that a little) but it makes it so hard to afford along with everything else you have to take.
Anyway my question is do you have to pay full price for Elmirion in the USA or are you able to get it cheaper? This is another issue that I would like to tackle here in Australia, but not sure where to start :bonk: This is so unfair as I know that many ICers here are not able to afford it, & even if you can it really pulls at the purse strings.
Ok thanks for listening again

I so wish I had the answers for you. I know I don't pay full price for Elmiron and I know I couldn't immagine adding that to my budget. It is possible you could get some free from the company itself but I know you want a more permanent sollution.

Many hugs your way!!!! :grouphug:

My prescription insurance plan allows me to only pay $5 per month for Elmiron. Actually with all my other scripts (5 or so) I only pay about $45 per month for all. I think that it is different for everyone here in the USA (sadly)...My husband works for a company that has a great health plan. I know there are others that are not so fortunate. Not only do drugs costs vary for ICr to ICr but it seems that there are so many who cannot even get pain meds when needed. Their doctor just won't prescribe it. They are referred to a pain clinic where they have to plead their case (practically beg) for medication to try to feel better. I know everyone's story is not as bleak as that but it is sad that so many of us have to live in pain just because their docs feel like they are going to turn into junkies. I am lucky again not to be in that situation but the medical system in the USA is frustrating at times.

Katrina was right about contacting Ortho-McNeil...They may beable to help you with the Elmiron!

Hugs,

Jamie

My husband and I are both retired and on USA Medicare, which does not offer prescription coverage. We do get a small discount through our supplemental insurance, but it's the most expensive drugs that have the smallest discounts. We manage to get around this a little by ordering some of our prescriptions out of Canada.

wow when I took it it was 100.00 a month for me. I believe I was told because there was no generic form. I also contacted that company they sent me a information packet and a pill box.
