hello all.

throughout this whole thing, other than frequency, my primary symptom has been urethral pain and burning. last week when i tried to have sex it was unbearable and caused some severe flaring. okay, so i realise i need to lay off that particular activity.

but.... i found that even after oral sex, i have urethral pain and what i would term a minor flare. do you think that using an ice pack immediately afterward would sort of head this off?

i can't believe how frustrating my sex life has become.

I understand how you feel. I am petrified to even be touched or have oral sex. The only thing we are down to is me lying with my bladder on a heating bad while I barely make it through sex with a ton of lubrication. It's really bad. There are a lot of things you can do of course to please your partner, but I have almost given up on pleasure for myself. It just seems like I have to find other ways because anything remotely in the lower area :) just makes me have pain.

i don't know, assuming this flare is ending (it feels like it is) i'm willing to take my chances with ice or a heating pad and face a day-long flare or so, every once in a while... i definitely feel to young to give up on that just yet.

I think the huge ammount of hormones that act up when we get very intestely intamate with our partner can cause us some pain. I recommend relaxing completely and for as long as you can afterwards....possibly meditating and staying completely still. ...We do what we can. I definatly have done the same thing with those flares. I hope you have more pain free days.

Well, I can tell you something not to try with oral sex. Wait until after your hubby has brushed his teeth and used some mouth wash to initiate it! That caused some pain I will never forget. I never was that sensitive before IC, but things south of the border certainly have changed since IC.

I notice an increase in discharge after oral sex., and of course that causes burning due to my VV.

My uro suggested urinating right after sex to clear out anything that may have made the trip up the urethra and take a warm bath or use my icepack, whichever works for me. I also suggest taking some otc uristat before sex, because it does numb things on it's trip through my system. If you have some pain meds or anti inflammatories, I'd take them first as well. Experiment and see what helps you avoid the after pains.
