View Full Version : New to ICN and concerned with health
My name is Mick and I am new to the ICN as of yesterday (11/16). I have been diagnosed with IC and I had bladder surgery two weeks ago. It took almost a week for the pain to subside enough that I did not need to take pain medication prescribed by the Urologist. I was fine for several days and then I started passing blood and tissue in my urine. I called the clinic and was told that this was not unusual but I was only able to speak with an intern. What I would like to know is has anyone else had this problem post surgery and how long will did it last? If it helps to know more about me, I am a 37 year old male in good health other than IC. I gave up caffine, alcohol and chocolate six months and I have been making modifications to the rest of my diet as I read more about IC.
Anyone have any reommendations of things I might be able to do?
Thanks for reading this : )

Hi Mick,
Welcome aboard! :)
What kind of bladder surgery did you have? After both of my cysto/hydros, I passed urine and tissue, and the uro said that was normal.
Sounds like you are on the right track with your diet. It's hard to give those things up sometimes, but after your first flare, you ward off all that stuff! :)
Hugs,
Jess

If you were fine for several days then went back to having pain and passing blood, etc., I do think it would be wise to be checked to be absolutely certain you don't have an infection. I suggest you call your uro's office and specifically ask to have them order a urine culture.
Warm healing thoughts,
Donna

:hi: and :welcome: to the ICN it does sound like you are on the right track with the diet you can read more about it and other treatments www.ic-network.com/handbook i find it very useful even still today after being dx june 2002.
I must agree with Donna You need to be checked for an infection.
sending you hugs and prayers
Rhonda

It is very common to develop an infection after a procedure that involves catheterization. I was on a 3 day course of antibiotics after my cysto w/ hydro and STILL got a UTI.

Hi Mick:
What type of bladder surgery did you have? If the surgery involved biopsy and/or fulgeration, it is not unusual to bleed and pass tissue a few days days later.
Hope you are feeling better.
Jeanne
Thanks to everyone for the support given to me Wed on my first try with the message board on the ICN. I did make it to the Urologist office and was tested for bladder infections via the urine sample. It all came out negative. They told my that I would possibly be passing blots and clots for up to a month after my cystoscopy and hydrodistention surgery. Now it is not such a shock. I just had a challenging 72 hours with this because men are not used to seeing anywhere that much blood in there urine in such a short amount of time. Glad to have everyone's support.

Hi Mick! I didn't get a chance to welcome you to the boards yet, - so welcome aboard.
Thanks for updating us on how you are doing. You did the right thing by checking with your urologist. It's always better to be safe then sorry. I hope that you can continue to feel better and the bleeding stops soon.
Take Care!

:welcome: to the ICN!!! I'm sorry I missed your post earlier... but I am certainly glad you're feeling better now. I think you got lots of advice already, so I'm not going to add much.... I just wanted to say hello and welcome you. Please post whenever you have questions or need support-- this site was a lifesaver for me when I was in the process of being diagnosed and then just afterwards :)
