I bought herbs that come in liquid form but they contain grain alcohol, they are Marshmallow and Juniper Berries - the Juniper Berries contain more alcohol, can this be making things worse? the herbs were reccomended to help pain but I don't even know if they work!

I believe that marshmallow root really does help me - it helps to heal mucosal linings in the body (like the bladder). But I buy the dry/ground up kind at Whole Foods and put it in a tea-infuser ball and make tea out of it. I'd watch out for anything that has grain alcohol in it - it just doesn't sound good!

I dont know what brand it is, but there is a brand that sells the marshmallow root extract w/o alcohol.

Hi there, I discovered the same thing a while back.
My naturapth tries to only use herbs with no or <20% alchohol as some have up to 50%. When he makes up my tonics he now puts in almost 50% olive leave extract which is pure (no alchohol) so then the alchohol content overall is minimal. Virtually all herbal extracts are alchohol based.
Other than that I try to take herbs in dry tea form and put it in a teaball infuser as somebody else mentioned. I take marshmallow, juniper berries and horsetail this way. You should be able to get these in any decent health food store and they are very cheap usually. I also brew my own corn silk with sweet corn silk and water.
Hugs,
Sara :)

Yep, the marshmallow root tea does not taste or smell particularly good. I like to mix it with either chamomille or mint tea. That way you get the benefit, but you don't have to taste it!

Hey Melissa, love the "DEEETROIT" you have for where you are from. LOL I am from just north of the east side of DEEEETROIT. :)
Never thought of mixing mint tea w/the marshmallow, I just tended to gack it down lol. Havent used it in a while though. Take care.

I also mix chamomile with my marshmallow tea and either chamomile or lemon with the horsetail tea. They really don't taste awful I find they just don't have much of a taste at all.
Sometimes I let it cool right down (especially in hot weather when you don't really feel like a hot drink) and gulp it down like water. That way it's over and done with.
The herbal extracts are truly revolting (the ones with alchohol in them.)
Hugs :)

You can get almost any extract made with glycerine instead of alcohol. But I believe that the teas with the dried herbs are better - more potent. But Marshmallow - I can't explain how much I can't stand that taste. The only way I can tolerate it is with peppermint leaves and just a tiny pinch of the marshmallow. But I sometimes take Marshmallow in capsules.
