I am having a rectocele repair next week and have been told I will wake with a foley catheter inserted. I have to keep this in for about 3 days. My question is:- How will I feel when I wake up? Will I feel the catheter and will I feel like I have to go to the bathroom? I have never had a foley catheter before and am scared of what it will be like.

Also how will I tell I have an infection with the catheter?

Can anyone advise me on this?

I have only had one catheter and it hurt like helll, it was when I was first diagnosed with IC.

thanks in advance

for me when ever I had a catheter in the only discomfort I had was with the 1st one while they were inserting it so they waited until I was out. Other then that I could never tell that it was in there and it was great because I never felt like I had to use the restroom.

I know of some that get an infection after the catheter is out..hopefully you won;'t be one. Good luck with your surgery you are in my thoughts.

The first time I had a foley catheter, I did feel kind of like I needed to go to the bathroom for a little while after I woke up, but mostly it just felt good to be able to lay in bed all night without any bathroom trips.

I had rectocele surgery and it wasn't bad at all. The only thing that hurt was when the vaginal packing was removed and that only took a minute.

Warm hugs,
