Hey y'all, I just thought it might be fun to start a list of feel-good movies for those days we all have where we just want to curl up on the couch with our heating pads and escape. Input would be appreciated...I'll start (i had a list of 25 movies yesterday but my computer kicked me off before I could submit...)
In no particular order.....
1) Top Gun....not traditionally "feel good" but if you don't feel better after seeing Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer shirtless at the same time.....there is no hope.
2) My Fair Lady
3) Breakfast at Tiffany's
4) Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo's Fire, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles...any brat pack movie. Watch as a movie marathon for extra effect.
5) It Could Happen to You
6) French Kiss...especially when you're mad at men
7) Life is Beautiful...I saw it in an underground theatre in Houston in Italian with English subtitles...it's much more beautiful that way than when totally translated...
8) Benny and Joon. Everyone must see this movie if they have not done so.
I could go on forever...but I think it's your turn now!!!

With Christmas coming up, I would have to say that "A Christmas Story" is one of my all time favorites. It is so funny and so true. Stuff like that actually happened then. I know...showing my age here. :)
"High Anxiety" is so much fun. Especially if you are a Hitchcock fan.
"Young Frandenstier" has to be on this list, also.
"Cassablanca" is another great movie...one of the best "goodbye" scenes of all time.
Then of course, there is "Somewhere In Time". Oh my...I could watch that one over and over. It is such a beautiful movie.
On the quirky side of things..."Big Fish" is a wonder to watch...beautifully done.
The Shrek movies are a hoot.
:) :) :)

Jess...My husband and I have stayed in the hotel in San Francisco where High Anxiety was shot. We were still living in CA then and would go to "the City" about every other month or so for the fun of it. We decided to stay in that hotel on one of those trips. We requested a room on one of the higher floors so we could look over the rail :dizzy: and sing...HIGH ANXIETY!!!!! :lmao:
ICNJess

Talking about Christmas movies.....What about that movie that has the two kids and the one kid wants a bb-gun for Christmas. Also, the mom bundles the poor younger brother up so tight to go out he can hardly move. The next door neighbor's dogs eat the turkey for dinner and the end up eating at a Chinese restaurant. So, so funny!! I love it! :biglaugh:
It's a classic Christmas movie. I think it is called "The Christmas story" or something like that. Somebody help me out.
Hollydoll85
11-21-2004, 08:17 AM
Mel- You're right...the movie is "A Christmas Story." Interesting fact....the kid who gets his tongue frozen to the pole grew up to be a porn star...lol.
Jen- I Capture the Castle is about a British family who moves into a dilapidated old castle...the father is a writer who hasn't written in 12 years, stepmother is an artist/nudist (not too much of the movie is focused on that part though) and there are two daughters, Rose and Cassandra, and a son. The story is from the pov of Cassandra....Rose is beautiful and obsessed with becoming rich no matter what is takes..I don't want to say too much..but it's beautiful...all the guys are really cute too:)

I agree with Dyno, "Forrest Gump" is my favorite. Also good are "Hud", "Rain Man", to add to Betsie's post, there is a local singer (Wash DC) named Eva Cassidy who does the most beautiful rendition of "Over The Rainbow" I have ever heard. Unfortunately, she passed away at a very young age.
