yeast infection for 7 mo?

okay so i feel weird posting about this.. but maybe some people have had similiar experiences. so since around april i have had symptoms, unusual whitedischarge, minor itching and redness. those creams and prescription creams didnt even work. finally my gyno told me to take Diflucan once a month but it still isnt helping. not sure what to do if i should go back to the gyno or what. i dont know what else i can do but its annoying and i would like to atleast figure this out cuz i dont wanna deal with ic plus this thing. anyone have any ideas.

My advice is to always check back in with your Dr. I have had my share of those over the years, though only one in the past year and none for 20 years prior...one is bad enough, so 7 months doesn't sound acceptable...please check your treatments with the Dr.

I would make sure your doc is culturing you each time b/c it is so difficult, even for health practitioners, to tell the difference between a yeast infection and a bacterial one. Hope you can find something that helps --- I used to spend months with bacterial and yeast infections for no apparent reason. It drove me NUTS!!!!

I know many of us do and up in trouble with yeast infections but I do think going tot he doc at this point is best. Keep us updated!

Here is my situation - it sounds a bit like yours. I was having a strange white-ish discharge and some redness/itchiness for about a year or so. Each time I went to the gyn (who is also my uro, so I see him a bit) I would mention it, and he would take a culture, and they always found a "little" yeast. I tried all the creams and took diflucan for 3 months - to no avail. :mad: So my gyn sent me to a specialist who said it is cervical ectopy. It's apparently nothing to be worried about, and could potentially be from my birth control or other hormonal changes. Something about the lining or surface of the cervix changing and producing this white discharge. And since I have vestibulitis, the discharge was irritating my skin in that area. He said that I had probably been mis-diagnosed with yeast infections for a while. In my case, the discharge is nothing to worry about (while slightly annoying at least knowing it is harmless I can learn to live with it), and I am doing a few other things to combat the vestibulitis. So, I guess the point of my story is - be sure it's a yeast infection. Are you having that charachteristic thick ("cottage cheese" - eew) discharge? Or is it thinner?

This is all still pretty new to me, and I am CLEARLY not a doctor, so take it for what it's worth. Just wanted to share my story, because it sounded very familiar!
