Hello, I wasn't sure where to post this - hope it's ok here. I just wondered if there are particular times when others feel their bladders more. I ask because I'm begining to really believe that mine is worse starting the week before my period EVERY month. I just start feeling that burning feeling grow and grow. It used to ease up as my period started but last month it didn't. Instead it last two weeks and that' when I started the IC diet. I was feeling optimistic for about 10 days and BOOM! here I am again - the week (or there abouts) before my period. :cussing:
The other time I feel pressure more is at night. I'm not sure if it's just because I'm horizontal or if it's more to do with the time of day and that I've been eating and now it's caught up with me. I'm feeling like it is more to do with my actually lying down. I might not suffer much during the day but come the night time I'm up to the bathroom 3 times. When it's really bad day and night though I can be up and going up to 8 times a night. One last thing I'm wondering too - whevever my bladder is bothering me, I just can not feel sleepy enough to even start to fall asleep - I am wide awake! It doesn't need to be bothering me THAT badly either so it's not the pain that's keeping me awake - it's just like I'm not tired, that I'm wide awake at 2am!
thanks in advance and so glad I found this site
not much support from anywhere else but here. :toilet:
For me, and everyone reacts differently, I do have more trouble with my bladder around my period, when I have eaten or drank something I shouldn't have and I used to have trouble when laying down too. That may have changed as I have found medication that is helping me.
I also am very aware of my bladder during times of stress. You may find that when your bladder is hurting it is hard to fall asleep, tough to relax when you are hurting.
You will find plenty of support here, I would suggest talking to your Dr. about this and maybe there is something he can add to your treatment that would help you.

Hi there.... yes, just before and during my period are bad times for me. In addition, at night, when I first lie down, my bladder likes to remind me it's there and I sometimes have to get up several times to urinate, even though I'd been doing well previously. I don't know why getting in bed and lying down gets it worked up, but I've heard a LOT of patients complain about this.... :)

I also have a kot of discomfort before my period. I tend to take the prosed more that week and also the AZO tabs. I also find that if I take a hot bath and then when I get out to apply an ice pack it helps it a little
I try not to stress to much but sometimes that is hard to do. At night time I lay with a heating pad just because it helps relax me and and it feel so good to have heat on my pain. (I have just bought a corn bag from ibtracy and it is great no more cords to fool around with and I can sleep without having to turn the pad off)
I hope you feel better soon.

Yes, my IC gets worse around my periods. Usually right before I start my periods for about 3-4 days is horrible. Chelsey

My IC builds and builds and gets worse before my period. The only time I actually feel better (with the IC) is during my period. Then, it all starts again. I recently am celebrating that I found a doctor in my area that specializes in IC and on her website she does state that many people with IC have increased symptoms with their mentrual cycles. Also, I too am much worse at night.
Hiyas!! I think flairing around the menstrual cycle is quite common. I do experience the lying down syndrome from time to time, though less now that I am stable on medication. It doesn't hurt, but I seem to have a feeling like a cramp or contraction. I do think it is positional, sometimes I can lie on my side and it will stop. I can't sleep through bladder pain nor when I have my bladder talking to me like that when I lay down, doesn't matter how tired I am. My suspicion is my mind is waiting for the other shoe to drop and the need to run to the bathroom. What helps me is to get up and go sit on my lovely ice bag for a while. That does seem to stop it.

The bladder wall becomes inflamed in the same way the uterine wall does. Changes in hormone levels affect women with IC. There is also increased pelvic pain as well and constipation. All from changes in hormone levels.
