Hi!

I am 9 weeks pregnant with my 4th child. I am only 28 years old. I have been to my OB 3 times so far and each time have been diagnosed with a UTI. I have already been given two rounds of antibiotics and am to start my 3rd this week. This CAN'T be good for me or the baby. Anyone else have this problem?

I don't feel like I even have a UTI I am just getting the "normal" IC pains. Any info or advice would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Is your ob sending your urine to the lab for a culture? Many times I thought I had a uti and with a culture it was only my IC symptoms. My ob had me take anti's also. When I went to the uro he said w/o a culture I might not have needed them to begin with. So unless your ob is your uro too....it might be a good idea to let your uro take care of this problem instead of the ob.

It is always better to be safe than sorry. A uti w/o medical attention isn't good for you or your baby. And I don't think your ob would be prescribing any medication if it was to harm the fetus.

I hope you feel better soon. How are you holding up otherwise. With other children in the house, I hope you have friends and family to help you out so you can get lots of rest! :)

Congradulations on your pregnancy! I hope you can enjoy it soon...when the IC or uti's stop making trouble. ;)

I have been preg. four times I have three children I lost one.
each time i stayed in the hosp. with uti some uti had to have iv anti to get rid of them and when i was at home i was on anti.
there is some safe anti. for you and the baby.
I do agree make sure your doctor is sending your urine off to make sure your on the right anti. because if he isn't giveing you the right anti. the infection want go away.
drink lots of water is one of the keys make sure your wipeing front to back, ware only white cotten panties. all these should help you.

Thanks for your responses. My OB always sends the urine in for a culture. It comes back with a different infection each time. Very rarely is it ever e-coli. Last week it happened to be klebsiella pneumoniae. I am very prone to UTI's and with my last pregnancy the Dr. (who I do not use anymore) had me on different antibiotics each month. I wound up developing some pretty nasty kidney infections - which I think is because of antibiotic resistance. I do not have a urologist. I went to one a few years ago that performed some extremely painful tests and so it has left a bad taste in my mouth towards uro's.

I have voiced my concerned with my new OB but they keep scaring me with pre-term labor scenarios to get me to take the antibiotics.

If your urine c/s comes back positive then it is definitely necessary that you be treated with antibiotics. Pre-term labor is a definite concern. Untreated UTI's can lead to miscarriage and premature labor/birth. Please follow your OB's advice, he is doing what is best for you.

I have four children and started antibiotic therapy at 14 weeks pregnant with each of them due to recurrent UTI's. I had normal pregnancies and deliveries. The antibiotics did not affect the pregnancy negatively and the babies were born healthy. It is more important that you take the antibiotics than not. They will not hurt you or your baby.

Congratulations and feel well.
