Researchers in Japan tried to solve the puzzle of why glomerulations (small, pinpoint hemorrhages) occur in the bladders of many IC patients. They discovered that patients with glomerulations had much higher levels of angiogenic growth factors, substances which encourage the growth of blood vessels, thus suggesting that this could be an important part of the IC disease process.
