Hi,

Thank you first to the gals who responded to my post about Botox and travel - I appreciate your help and support very much.

Since I last posted about having to travel to Ontario for possible Botox injections, I have re-connected with a doctor who is a uro-gynecologist and does Botox injections - but the best news for me and my husband is that it only means travelling three hours one way instead of having to fly first to one city and then drive to another where the first doctor works. So for us this is such a break in the stress level - just the thought of doing the flying and driving routine was very overwhelming.

My question now is: the Botox injections I am probably having (I am going to have a consultation appointment with the doctor first) are done in the vagina only and the information I have been given so far is that there is no freezing of any sort - just some sort of cream to put on the area. I am wondering with just having the injectons into the vagina will the Botox relieve the pain in the urethra and mainly in the bladder. Also, with this method is there still the possibility of having urinary retention from the Botox? That is why I am booked first for a consultation - because I have a number of questions to ask the doctor and then I can decide whether I want to go ahead with the injections. Also, this doctor does the Botox treatments every three months. I am wondering if this is too often. Is it not best to wait and see if I actually need another treatment before going ahead with the second one???

I would very much appreciate information and advice from those of you who have gone this route before me. I am quite concerned that having the Botox only in the vagina is not going to do anything for the severe pain in my bladder. Thanks for helping me with this.

LOUISE

Louise,
I would love to hear the answers to all those questions? Very intresting? If no one post there comments can you let me know when you see the URO-GYNO. You are very lucky you found him. I live in SO-California and I cant find a URO-GYNO near me. Good Luck and let me know. :)

Lois:

I have had many times Botox injections, and everytime are different the results, so I have to study about this, I have the luck to visit very frequent to the Botox Manager in México, and my dr is the first dr that put Botox here. So in my experience, I can answer you this:

the Botox injections I am probably having (I am going to have a consultation appointment with the doctor first) are done in the vagina only and the information I have been given so far is that there is no freezing of any sort - just some sort of cream to put on the area: I ALWAYS HAVE THE INJECTIONS UNDER ANESTHESIA, BECAUSE I USUALLY HAVE IN OTHER PLACES, AND IS A PAINFULY PROCEDURE IN THE PATIENTS THAT HAVE PAIN IN BLADDER AND URETHRA

I am wondering with just having the injectons into the vagina will the Botox relieve the pain in the urethra and mainly in the bladder. I HAVE HAD 4 TIMES THE INJECTIONS IN THE VAGINA, AND USUALLY HELP ME WITH THE PROBLEM IN MY PELVIC FLOOR. I ALWAYS HAVE IT CONTRACTED, SO THIS HELPS TO EMPTY MY BLADDER AND PAIN IS LESS

I am wondering with just having the injectons into the vagina will the Botox relieve the pain in the urethra and mainly in the bladder. NO, THE RETENTION IS WHEN ONLY THE BOTOX IS INJECTED IN THE BLADDER. FOR BEST RESULTS THE IJECTIONS HAVE TO BEEN INSIDE BLADDER, URETHRA AND PELVIC FLOOR

Also, this doctor does the Botox treatments every three months. I am wondering if this is too often. Is it not best to wait and see if I actually need another treatment before going ahead with the second one??? MY DR TOLD ME THAT THE BETTER IS 4 OR 6 MONTHS BETWEEN THE INJECTIONS

My advice is that you must have a very big talk with the Dr and ask him/her about the results that he/she is waiting and the risks that you can have

If you need something else, let me know, ok??

RUTH & FLORE,

Many thanks to both of you for your responses. I know I have so many questions to ask about the Botox and am becoming more and more mixed up whether I am doing the right thing. I am in touch with a few women who have done well on the Botox but they seem to be ones who have had it done in the urethra and bladder. So I am wondering with just having the Botox injections in the vagina am I going to feel any better than I am presently feeling now?!

Yes, I will ask the lady doctor many questions when I see her in three weeks.
Then I can better make an informed decision as to what to do - at least I hope I will be able to!! I am in Canada and the uro-gynecologist I will be seeing is in Calgary, Alberta which for me is about a three-hour drive.

Sincere thanks,

LOUISE

I only have had the injections once inside the bladder, and I don´t have the results that I was expecting, and the injections in my pelvic floor have been very helpfully

Louis,

There is a couple women in our groups that have had Botox injected in their pelvic floor and urethra with mixed results. I have had good results with the injections in all areas. It really helps to have the urethra and pelvic floor injected. It is certainly worth trying but I would hope to have at least the urethra injected too.

Me too, in fact IN MY CASE, is the place where Botox really helps me

How are you????

Today I had the first day without pain during the day. I mean, I only have pain everytime that I´m urinating. A very strong pain and spasm, and when I finish, the pain and spasms go

My frequency is very well, I go to the bathroom every 2 hours, and is great because I can be in the traffic without problems or in a meeting too. AND... the urgency is out from my life!!!!!

The problem is that I have to go at night 3 or 4 times. My dr says that is normal. I have to wait for 1 more week to see the real effects of the surgery

Hi Flore,

I am so glad that you are doing better.

I am not doing well, I think I waiting too long to schedule the procedure again. I was scheduled for November 19 but moved the procedure up to the 12th. I can't wait.

Email me and let me know how everything is going with you and the association.

Oh Cindy,
I hope you are doing better today. I realize that the 12th can seem like a life time but it will go fast. I will be praying for you and keeping you in my thoughts.
