Hello again, its been awhile for me to be on here but I think I am coming to my wits end. For a year and a half I have been dealing with problems down there....My problems began when I thought I had a bladder infection but no - I just blood in my urine, my urologist gave me my first cysto and told me I was "imflammed"- no reason why, i took two trimithroprim a day and never had another problem till I became sexually active again. At first I thought I had an STD but all tests were negative....Since then I have had 6 cystos, 2 dilatations, and numerous visits to various doctors. My last cysto showed my bladder walls to be perfectly normal in my opionion, the only thing we saw was a red like lesion in my trigone area...."trogonitis" as the doctor put it. I find very little information on "trigonitis" or "urethral syndrome" and I get no understanding from anyone. My current doctor has me taking two Elavils, five Calcium pills, and two Nitrofurantoin a day for my "urethral syndrome" and "vestibulitis". I have days when I feel an awful sensation down there and I don't know if this is a flare up or if it could be something else.....for the most part (daily) I feel bruised down there (mainly during sitting)....my doctor tells me all my tissues look normal and I have no infection. I guess I just want to know if what I am going thru is normal for anyone else, he says I dont have IC and wont do anything more for me.....Please help..

Oh I am o sorry that you are feeling yucky and that you are not getting answers from your Dr. There is something going on since you are not feeling normal and for your Dr. to just not do anything is wrong. I myself would have to see another Dr to see what that Dr would say. You may or may not have IC but you do deserve to find out what is causing you your discomfort. Good luck!

I think a second opinion may be a good idea for you. It's not unusual for an IC patient to be initially diagnosed as trigonitis or urethritis. If your doctor is unwilling to do further testing or to help you, seeing another doctor may be your only solution.

Warm encouraging hugs,
Donna

I'm sorry you're going through this! It's such an awful time, -when you absolutely KNOW there's something wrong, yet basically get the 'brush off' from someone you'd hoped would help you!

Prior to my IC diagnosis, I was told it was urethritis several times. No tests done, just diagnosed with urethritis by symptoms, then treated with antibiotics over and over with no improvement. I felt so helpless, and worried that I'd be in that pain for the rest of my life. If I couldn't get a 'reason' for it, how in the world would I ever find a cure?

All I can say is I agree with the others. You need to press on. If your cystos were the in-office type, they wouldn't show IC. Even if what you have going on isn't IC, it still is something! If you feel you've hit a roadblock with your current doctor, then it's probably time to find another. -And don't be too surprised if you need to find yet another after that one!

Best of luck in your search!

Vicki

Ok, I understand about the second, third, and fourth opinions....yuck. Just one more quick question. Monday the doctors office told me my epithilial (forgive my spelling) and flora count from my urine sample had 100 times higher counts than normal, any ideas what could be going on with that ?

A high number of epithelial cells and bacteria in the urine almost always mean that the specimen contained vaginal contamination. Did the nurse give you instructions for collecting a "mid-stream clean catch" specimen?

oh yes, i did a clean catch. the doctor didnt ask for another sample, he just told me to increase my antibiotic to four a day, should i ask for another test ?

It's really unusual for a clean catch specimen to have a high number of epithelial cells. This is just what I would do if I were you, I would finish the antibiotic and if you still notice cloudy urine ask for another urinalysis and either make sure you really wipe well with the towelettes or maybe ask if the nurse could do a straight cath, then you'd be sure whatever is found is actually in your urine. Like I said, that's just my opinion, you'll need to do what you feel is right.
