The past 3 days I've had alot of burning when I urinate. I've been in a bad flare for about 6 weeks now. I'm taking Elavil and just upped the dose from 5mg to 10mg per day, and I have hydrocodone and Darvocet for pain. I called my urologist today about the burning in the urethra and they worked me in so I could give a urine sample. They said the test came back clear as a bell..no UTI. I asked while I was there, if I have an infection in my urethra, do I need antibiotics and they said since the urine culture was clear that I do not. They didn't do a "pelvic" exam or anything. I did do a self-check at home and there's no puss or anything, it's just red and inflamed. I normally only get the urethra pain after a catheter..but I haven't had a cath in about 2 weeks, this just started out of the blue. Sorry to be so graphic..but it's driving me nuts and it's hard to sit or wear jeans even loose ones. Is this something that can be just another symptom of IC? :( Also, does anyone know if there is an infection in the urethra, would a urine culture show that? I've had vaginal pain in the past but that cleared up with the Elavil..now it's just the urethra pain and of course the pelvic pain that always comes with my flare ups.
