hello :hi: question! are their any teenagers taking elmiron now? my urologist said im too young to take it and that there is no pediatric medication for elmiron out just yet. im 16 years old and missing so much school. imipramine and ditropan XL are doing nothing at all.
do you think this doctor is right for not prescribing me elmiron or is he just total jerk?

Katie,
I'm not sure about the pediatric research with elmiron....although if you are not comfortable with the decision from your doctor, I suggest you start looking for another one and hopefully you'll get your symptoms under control cause those meds he gave you didn't work for me either....I wish I'd had my dx as early as you...I went from my teenage years through 22 before getting it......I'm 28 now and my symptoms are under control with elmiron...hugs to you and hope to see you around more often..... :hi:

If I were you, I'd tell that uro to  MY :toosh:!
:lmao:
Ok, well, I wouldn't actually go and say it. But I'd go find a new uro!
I'm younger than you (15) and probably smaller than you in general (5 ft, 100 pounds), and I've been taking the adult dose of Elmiron for about three weeks with no really bad side effects.
It's true that there aren't any studies about using Elmiron on teens. But, sometimes a responsible doc needs to choose the lesser of two evils. If you take Elmiron, there's probably a small chance that you could get messed up. But, if you don't, then you have 100 percent odds of getting messed up from missing school and having your life put on hold for IC!
I think your uro is :loco:

I'm 19 years old and have been taking Elmiron just fine. I'm also doing bladder instillations. I don't know anything about the research though about Elmiron and the affect on age? I would go see another uro and see what he or she says. I hope you get something though to help take the pain away. Have you asked for uro for bladder instillations? I'm not sure which one Elmiron or the bladder instillation are working better. Or both. I started doing both around the same time. Chelsey

I think you need to stand up to the Dr and ask for something. If he won't listen I personally would seek a new Dr.
