I do not know where to post this. My daughter has IC and PFD. She has trouble with a lot of antibiotics, etc.
She has a 4 month old baby and they recommend people with children under 6 months get a flu shot. Should she get one? She could get a bad reaction, right?
Are ICers getting flu shots?
Thanks for any info.

Because I have worked in the health field for the last 10 years plus I have been receiving flu shots for along time. My expierence has been that sometimes I flare for a few days and sometimes I do not. I had mine on Thursday and I did not have any trouble this year.

I had a flu shot a few weeks ago, and I had no problems.

Here in Michigan you can't find any.. and, when they did there for 65 and older... On the news they say you can get them at our rec center in our city, you call and they say they have none and are not getting any.. the dr's office has none.. Kmart is advertising giving them Oct 19th.. and that has been canceled.... I gave up!

My husband and I are both supposed to get them, but haven't yet. Our doctor suggested waiting until the first part of November --- I've decided I'll wait until then to worry about whether they will be available. I read an article this morning saying that those in the high risk groups who can't get a flu shot should be sure they have had a pneumonia vaccination so we may do that.
Up to now we've had flu shots every year and it always gives me a sore arm, but no problem with the IC.

I read somewhere that they are going to have the flu vaccine available in Jan. They apparantly have found some more.

I had my a couple of weeks ago, as I'm considered high risk. (Sore arm for a few days, other than that, no problem).

>Are ICers getting flu shots?
If you are asking if IC puts you in the high risk catagory which I think you are I would have to say no.
The fact that she has a 4 month old baby would be more of a reason to get one.
I had one last week because I am an insulin dependent diabetic. In my case I would have to say I have no idea if I flared from it. Yes, I did flare bad but I can not say it was definely from the flu shot. Even if I said yes it bothered me it would not mean she would have a hard time. We are all so different with IC.
She probably has some time since there does not seem to be many available right now. They are coming but the media is getting everyone in a panic (I am not saying you are).
Good luck with the decision.

I had one a couple days ago. It was horrible becasue of the severe inflammation from the arthritis it causes my muscles in my arms to feel hard and knotted up. The nurse poked me three times them jabbed it in really hard. I couldn't use my arm for the first three days. I guess it is different because of the arthritis. I had one reserved for me because of the Ulcerative Colitis, IC, Psoriatic arthritis, Anackolizing Spondilitis well and some other anutoimmune problems allowed me to get one as a priority. Last year I didn't get one and had the flu about 6-7 times. I almost had to be hopitalized. It was very scary and aweful to go through. Anyways am I correct that IC is NOT considered an autoimmune problem? Or is it? Anyways sorry for those of you who haven't been able to get a flu shot. I hope that you will all get one asap. I didn't notice my IC flarring as a result of it. They said it was a dead virus but I still had a fever, diarhea, a headache, and the chills for the last four days. My immune system has been pretty waek though. Hopefully the shot will help. Take care - Christina

For the last 8 or 9 years I have been making it my priority to get a flu shot. I have asthma so it's important for me to get one. I just think that it's a good idea. I have not been sick with the flu once this year! Last year I had to wait for about 45 minutes in a hallway to the public heath clinic just to get into the clinic itself. Then wait another 10 minutes for them to call my number.
But it was worth it. I have noticed that for me, I do not flare. But I never associated flaring with the flu shot.
I hope you all consider getting the flu shot if you can. I know that it's tough in the States right now because there is a lack of flue vaccine but give it your best shot. (no pun intended)
