Ok to sleep on back for awhile; wakes me with IC pain later though. Negotiating which side to sleep on sometimes. Sheesh.

I actually cannot sleep on my back. I switch from side to side and to my stomach. I can never get comfortable until I just fall asleep. I'm not sure why you are waking up in pain though. That has only happened to me a few times. I do wake up to go to the bathroom. Probably asking your doctor would be a good idea. Chelsey
Yes, check with your doctor. I find the best position for IC sleep is on my side with small pillow between knees. Seems to relieve pressure the best. I also listen to "guided imagery" CDs. I got one from a medical hypnotherapist who teaches a yoga class I attend. Also bought one on Amazon.com by Belle Ruth Naparstek ("Healthful Sleep")-that one really relaxes me back to sleep. (In fact I've never heard it all the way through-zzzzzzzz)

The only way I can sleep on my back is with a pillow under my knees. I sleep on my side and turn over many times in a night.

Me Too. They only way I could sleep for years was on my back with about 4 pillows shoved under the backs of my knees to raise them, this seemed to take a bit of pressure off the tummy area. because I am like you & can never sleep flat on my back it just sends me in to instant pain & pressure.
The main downfall is it's a real pain trying to get in & out of bed to get to the loo. It takes another 5min to reorganize them everytime you get back into bed. But it is worth it for a bit of comfort on the tummy area.
Good Luck

Sleeping on my back really hurts and is very uncomfortable. This entire week I have had to sleep on my back because of my surgery and let me tell you there has not been much sleeping going on. I have had many pillows under my kneews to help a little but I can't wait to be able to sleep on my tummy and side again.

Thank you everyone. You all mean so much to me. I do sleep with pillows under my knees on my back to start out sleeping but it doesn't do me good later on. I may need to make adjustments. I hope and pray we all have gentle healing and sleep better.

Just recently I realized I can't sleep on my stomach, I wake up cramping too badly to the point where I can't even sleep. So it's on my sides or back. :(
