Dribbles don't cut it

I am having trouble(bad) with retention. How long do most of you wait to go to ER?

When I had to go to ER for retention (just once and before I learned to cath myself), it took me about six hours before I knew I wasn't going to be able to urinate. I couldn't urinate at all.

Sweetie, please, you need to go to the ER and I am hoping they will get you in for the surgery you need right away!

did you try getting in the tub to pee..... or trying to run water. I am sure you have.. if you can't go.. I would go to er....

If I can, I wait at least 3-4 hours. My last resort is to stand in the shower with tepid water on me. If this doesn't work within 15-20 minutes, its off to the ER. I think that learning to self-cath would be a wonderful thing.
