Well, I thought I had another UTI. Nothing new here. I have been getting them at least once a month for the past two years -- anyway -- currently on antibiotics and bladder burning like crazy!!!!!!!!!!! No infection was tested, but burn, burn, burn! So, I realize I must now start cutting foods out. Today I ate a banana and my bladder is burning like mad. What I want to know is, when you eat an offending food, how long do you suffer afterwards?????? As well, does prelief help relieve burning?? Ladies, my IC specialist, says burning is not really associated with IC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank for any help. Why won't doctors admit that offending foods make my poor bladder burn! This is my second specialist.

i think people have different symptoms with ic. if you say your bladder is burning, then the guy (uro/doc) should believe you. i think you can ask for prosed/urimax or uristat???/pyridium. check back with your doc/uro. let him/her know that you would like something for the burning......
drink lots of evian water. this ic is difficult and complex. sometimes it is good to find some information to bring into your doc/uro to show him literature that states your symptoms.
these are good searches for the yahoo/google search:
interstitial cystitis
bladder mast cells
apf bladder.
emedicine.com is a good link. you have to sign up, but it is free.
imo, burning is related to ic, but i am no doctor. i just read as much as possible. it just may be indirectly related....

Urimax really helps me with the burning. When I don't take urimax I burn a lot. I take prelief right before I eat anything. I believe that it is helping me a lot. Especially with foods that are not IC friendly. I'm sorry your in such a bad flare. I would ask for urimax and get some prelief to take right before you eat. Chelsey
Well, not sure what your doc knows about IC, but burning is certainly part of IC for me. I use Prelief, I take pyridium and I take Prosed, all aimed at the burning sensation. By the way, Uristat/Pyridium is an otc drug you can buy in any drug store and some grocery stores in the USA. Because burning can be a symptom of a UTI, having your doctor's office check your urine for infection is also a good idea.
I also drink a lot of fluids every day, a gallon a day. I find it a big help. Sitting on an ice bag also brings me relief very quickly. I have one upstairs and one downstairs. :lmao: It is a major part of coping with IC pain for me.
I am sorry you are in pain, the burning is an awful sensation. I hope this ends quickly for you!!

If I eat ANY food with acid in it (bananas, oranges, mayonaise, mustard, ketchup, salad dressing, pizza etc) I go into a major flare that lasts up to 3 days.... If I eat any type of food with acid in it I take like 3 preliefs before, and 3 after or just 4 or 5 all at once.... You can basically take as many as you want to cause it doesn't harm you in any way...it's like tums..... Anyways, def. take prelief if you drink or eat anything acidic!!! I sometimes will eat a "no no" food just cause I feel like it and sometimes I'm willing to suffer the consequences (like not sleeping well).... Oh yah, and when I'm at a restaurant and order a drink..... and I taste it and it taste extremely acidic then I just send it back and order something else... I don't even give an explanation other than it tastes too sour.... Hope this helps... TAKE TONS OF PRELIEF

Twiggy,
Sorry you're going through this pain. Burning is the symptom that causes me the most grief,...horrible, horrible burning! And I know there are many here that experience it, so it's definitely a symptom of IC!
I hope you're feeling better by now. My burning 'cure' is to drink water with baking soda (about 1/2 teaspoon to an 8 oz glass of water). If I can get two to three glasses of that down, my burning always begins to ease up soon after the first glass, and disappears completely with-in three to fours hours. This is probably not a solution to try if your on a sodium restricted diet though.
Anyway, I sure hope you're over it!

Thanks for your help! I will try the baking soda and try to get my hands on some prelief. I will also explain to my uro that burning IS a symptom of IC! Thanks again for all your help. I truly appreciate it!
