View Full Version : Any tips for my mother?

My mother has been suffering for IC for at least 12 years, she was dignosed two years ago in Germany, at last she knew what exactly was wrong with her. The treatments she has been following improved her life slightly, but she is back to square one with the same pain. The doctor is now trying botox, but not through injections, as he considers them to invasive. After one of these treatments the pain was unbearable, she went to our local gp and she was dignosed with urine infection.... It seems that it is one step forward and 2 steps back. After talking to her today, she is as low as she has ever been... I wish there was something we could do to help her... Is botox truely the answer, shoud she insist on having injections instead? Any do you know of any IC help groups in europe, as that is where we are! Thank you!

Hello Isabel and :welcome: to our IC family...
here are some suggestions that might help.. heating pad.. in the pelvic and preanal area. (or ice) a hot bath... I bought me a revelon tub spa and use it . feel wonderful.... Has the doctor given your mom anti spasm pills? urised? pyrudim? or the rx called Elmiron, it helps with the gag layer of the bladder..
Also anti deppresants hel with pain like elavil...
ok.. and I copied this out of my Doctors website... its about him. look up this man in Germany (name in bold) he may have ananswer for you....
Dr. Peters was invited to be an active member on a National Institutes of Health sponsored clinical trials study group. In addition, Dr. Peters has demonstrated expertise in bladder cancer and is currently investigating several new therapeutic approaches to this disease. He has worked closely with Professor Hautmann in Ulm, Germany, an internationally renowned urologist who originated bladder replacement surgery, an operation which allows the bladder to be removed without the need for an ostomy.
I hope this is of some help to you..
