View Full Version : Stress and IC

Stress sure aggrevates IC. Today I called my primary doctor to see if I have a low grade UTI. Answer I got was that they were booked and they couldn't even schedule me. After numerous calls both to them and my urologist I was given an appointment with urologist for Nov 9th! Meanwhile primary doc calls back and says with my history of IC it's best to get me on antibiotics right away to avoid UTI on top of IC, all this without going to his office. It was like a part time job to square this away with both offices. Then the red tape of managed health care. My referral for a year with the urologist expired and I needed a new one. Ok, got that in place. Back to calling the primary doctor. Boy! This would try the patience of a saint. I wanted a urine test to tell if having UTI in the first place. I am starting to feel better and able to sit without going through the roof. I might just pick up the Septra antibiotics and let them sit in the closet awhile in case this happened to be a bad IC flare without the presence of bacteria. I'm kind of worn out from all the aggrevation. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

i make sure that i get one of those pee-pee cups every time i go in.. it helps for the next appointment or if i just want to drop off a sample. i use the outside bathroom before each appointment. i don't have to hold it until they can get things ready. stock up. ask the nurse for 2-3 of them. they will usually give them up if you continue to go in to the office
you can boil a jar on the stove for 10-15 mintues, i guess, then it will be sterile for you to pee in, then you can just drop it off. check with the doctors office to see if this is safe to get a good sample of your urine with this procedure.
see if this works.
if you can, get a family member to pick up one of those cups and get it to the office before you go on the antibiotic.
they make it so hard for us, don't they......
call that office back and just ask how you can get them a sample before you go on the antibiotic.
hope this helps.....

Yes, I have had similar headaches. It is bad enough, but when you are having to jump hoops and advocate when you are in pain it is even worse.
I hope you continue to feel better and better. :kissing:
(I usually ask my GP to call in an order for a UA and Sensitivity and then I do it at a lab. That or I go to an Urgent Care place and they do it there. )
