Hi,

I am wondering if I could get some help re Botox injections because I have to travel from almost one end of Canada to the other (well, only as far as Ontario) to a wonderful doctor who has offered to assess me and then possibly do the injections on me. I had already typed a long post here but somehow it disappeared even after I had logged on. I don't understand what causes this to happen but it is very frustrating after you have typed a long message!!

Anyway, to make a long story shorter now, my husband and I would have to first fly to one city and then drive to another where my doctor works. Then we would have to stay there for some period of time to have the injections and then rest before we make the same trek home; this with a bladder that is very sensitive like a lot of us to car and plane vibrations and turbulence.

I am wondering what would be a reasonable length of time to stay down east after I have the injections. Then how far apart in weeks or months do most of you have the injections done again? I am hoping if I were successful with the Botox relieving my excruciating urethra, bladder, pelvic and low back pain I might only have to travel back to Ontario every six to ten months. Does this sound reasonable? Any advice, recommendations and help would be greatly appreciated as I have tried most treatments and medications for my severe IC and both my husband and I are literally at our wit's end in my dealing with the terrible pain and the huge effect it is having on our life.

My pain is so bad that we were not able to travel to Hawaii to attend my daughter's wedding recently which was very sad for both of us. But my daughter was very understanding about my life and the severe pain I live with on a constant basis.

Many thanks for any assistance you gals can offer me.

I had hoped I might get some help and advice from those of you who have already been able to get Botox treatments and especially those who are feeling better from the injections. As someone who is suffering greatly with bladder, pelvic and low back pain from my IC and other problems associated with a number of pelvic surgeries and two MVAs, I was looking forward to hearing from some of you who might be able to give me advice since I will have to travel quite a distance to get the Botox injections. Plus I do not have a doctor in the city where I live who will continue the injections so we have a real problem there.

Thanks to anyone who might be willing to give me some assistance as to what to expect from the injections and any other information you could share from your experience from having Botox.

I guess my bunnies didn't bring me good luck because for the first time since I have posted here no one replied to my post for help so that is very disappointing. A while ago when Jill very kindly posted that myself and another gal were having a very difficult time I had so many kind and concerned messages it warmed my heart. Now I feel quite hurt that no one took the time to give me a little support and advice about such a new and perhaps even experimental treatment.

Louise-

Botox is different on each person. The norm for botox is 4-6 months. Sometimes longer. With you being so sensitive I think you should assess it as that. I've only had it done in the bladder in August but in Dec I'll get it in the pelvic floor for the pain. Botox in the bladder helps alot with freq/urg. I had it so bad I couldn't sleep and i tried everything else. I also have an interstim in which I call an expensive butt implant. Cause it makes one cheek bigger. I went under general ane. but some docs to it as a local. I needed two days to sleep cause of the ane. I would say stay and rest for two maybe three days just to make sure. It takes 5-7 days for the full effect of botox but for me it took two weeks. It depends on where they inject it. It is really not bad in terms of surgery. You will be very tired from the drug if you get a general. I had a general because my bladder is very senstive and my doc didn't want me to be in pain. Take a few days when you get back home because your bladder is healing from the injections and alot of activity can be painful. So my advice just stay off your feet and relax for about a week. Just don't push yourself cause you will be hating yourself later. If you have a general they put a tub down your throat during surgery. So get some ice cream or a good chocolate shake. For me I don't follow the IC diet because I didn't see any improvement on it. I staed the same. But if you know triggers then plan to have something to soothe your throat. I hope I answered everything you wanted to know if not private message me or you can e-mail me at PhelanKristinE@ambrose.sau.edu
Good luck to you.

Louise: So sorry!!!!!!!!. I didnīt see your message, I have been sick and today Iīm better thatīs because Iīm wathing this section- SORRY!!!

I agree with Kristin, I think you can stay without travel may be for 3 or 4 days after the surgery, you may feel umconfortable after, so the best is that you take a rest before do this very long trip

I use to have every 4 months the injections, but the last time was 8 months ago. I think this is great!!!!

When are you going to have the injections??
