Here's something I thought would be of interest:
2004 American Urological Association
Annual Meeting Abstract Summary
Sacral Neuromodulation for the Treatment of Interstitial Cystitis
Craig Comiter, Tuscon, AZ
Clinicians who used InterStim in 27 patients with IC concluded that it was safe and effective for dysfunctional voiding and pain in difficult-to-treat IC. They did test treatments in 27 patients who had not improved with diet, medications, and hydrodistension. Of these, 19 patients had at least a 50% improvement and qualified for the permanent implant. Two years after implantation, mean daytime frequncy improved from 17.1 to 11.9 and nocturia improved from and 4.5 to 2.5. Mean voided volume increased from 111 mL to 215 mL. Average pain decreased from 5.8 to 2.6 points on a scale of 1 to 10. The O'Leary-Sant symptom score decreased from 14.5 to 7.5. All these figures were statistically significant. Of the 19 patinets, 15 had sustained improvement in all measures the last time that they were seen for a check-up.
