I've had water retention since last friday. not so much that I CANT pee, but that I can't full empty my bladder!! My GP didn't offer me anything to help pass and thinks it will soon, does anyone have any tips on how to send it on its merry way?? My mum said you can get tablets to ease water retention but I'm thinking they might not be so good for an ICers to take?

I have visitors all next week and I want to be good for them :-(

The only thing that helps me when I have that is to drink lots of water and stay off my feet for a day. Gosh, I wish I had some good advice for you. Good Luck!

Many doctors will use a catheter to drain you & some of the ICer's do that themselves. I suggest you give your doc a call & ask about it. :butterfly Kathi

yeah that's what i asked the doctor about this week because one of my friends with IC had a catheter fit last weekend after having water retention, but my doctor didn't seem to think it was neccessary :-( i've never had a catheter outside hospital before, is it easy to learn to do it yourself? i can't even aim right when i have to give a urine sample in an inch wide cup, i can't imagine ever being able to fit my own catheter!

plus the doctors appointment i managed to get this week was in 24 hours of phoning up, and i didn't even get to see my usual doctor! normally with the system we have in scotland you have to wait upto 4 weeks to get to see a doctor, and the doctor i go to is THE most requested one in the surgeory :-( it really sucks because everywhere else in the uk you usually get seen on the day you call.

thanks so much for your advice, if i'm still like this early next week i think i'll have to make that appointment and pray to get another cancellation! :toilet:

thank you so much, i actually have been as active as i could be this week so i think i will have to take it easy the next few days with my hot water bottle.

i just drank 3 glasses of water in an hour and am currently running off to the bathroom every 5 minutes and even though i pee a fair amount it doesnt feel like enough! i'm wondering if stopping my meds for a few days might help? i just doubled the dose of one of my meds (Amitriptyline) and just started taking cimetidine, so i'm wondering if maybe thats whats caused this? maybe they're working too hard on my bladder too soon!

I sure wish I could help.. the only thing I can suggest is to sit in the tub and try to pee ... run water.... sit on the toliet and pour warm water over that area. which really is hard to do... Sometimes I retain so bad I feel like I am going to die.... I haven't had it happen as often now with the interstim...

Maybe this isn't the issue, but constipation can really make it hard to pee, so keeping that from happening really helps. (Believe it or not, it took me awhile to figure this one out, may be totally unrelated to your situation...)

Hope you feel better soon.
